  • Matthews on the block? (no link)

I saw it posted on FH that someone got it on his phone as a "Dolphins Buzz" that Miami is shopping Matthews. Even though he and Landry have been Miami's best receiver I am all for this if they can get a 4th or higher. He will be too expensive to be back in Miami next year. If this is true it tells me Parker's injury is not serious.

just passing it along can't say if it's true or not.

IF it's true I would be on the phone with playoff teams with desperate needs at wide receiver, and there are quite a few, and demand for a 2nd round pick. Matthews has been playing extremely well and if a team like the Panthers or other teams that are scraping by with their defense with little help at the WR position. I think a 2nd rounder is not out of the question. JMO

Parkers injury from all I've read is nothing more than a scar tissue issue and nothing to worry about. It would seem weird to get rid of Matthews now but there's a price for everything.

I don't think you are getting a second for him, but possibly a third for a WR starved team (cough, cough CAROLINA)...

yeah sure why not??, let's trade arguably our best WR for a mid round draft pick that'll possibly net us a backup offensive lineman to a line that's already offensive enough..Works for me!.....This is sarcasm in case anyone missed it.....

since we have a log jam up @ WR, why did we draft one in the 1st rd? BPA? I get it, but certainly something I wouldn't of done..... Maybe we'll draft another WR in the next draft... BPA......... Why not......

Mike - The log jam came after the draft and no one is saying that we didn't have other needs. No one expected Matthews to pick up his game and while only decent, have the season he has had thus far, nor for Parker to have the set back with the foot. Changes nothing. If a player other than Parker at WR had been there when we picked who had a higher grade, we would have went that direction, be it DE, RB, OLB, etc... and on the flipside, how well has drafting for ''need'' worked for us in the past? It hasn't. They had a board and stuck to it. Just sucks that injuries have affected us to such extent.

I understand Cuch, but a 1st and a 3rd for WR's with all our other needs at the time? So now we have 2 high picks that have done absolutely nothing thus far... I would think the brain trust would have a little better fore-sight then just rolling the dice on such a luxury position... ...

I'd be surprised if we even got a 3rd as teams know we likely do not resign him with Parker in the wings. Also, he is going to want to be paid well for basically one season of decent performance. He's as inconsistent as everyone else on our offense.

And he is a 26 y/o former 7th round pick from 2012. If we can get a 4th or even a 5th for him in a potential trade, do it.

As I see it the Dolphins have a #1 receiver in Landry and a #1b receiver in Matthews. Parker? I have no idea what he is going to be and NOBODY else does either. All we know thus far is that he did great in college, he cost the Dolphins a really high draft pick even though we had WAY more pressing needs. Hazel is expendable. Unfortunately Jennings is not living up to what he used to do back in Green Bay. Stills? He really hasn't done much this year. IF I were to trade any one of these receivers I would trade Stills. Hazel and Jennings are not trade worthy and Stills hasn't lived up to the 3rd round pick that the Dolphins used on him. The Dolphins in 2015 have WASTED a 1st and 3rd round pick on receivers that have done next to nothing. I would get rid of one of them and I have to lean towards still. IF Parker lives up to the hype next season they will have Landry, Matthews and Parker as their top three receivers. That should work out great! (They just need to draft some offensive linemen and a QB)

Agree, the third was a dream for a team like Carolina that is in dire need of a WR.

To me Mathews is as good as Stills and we gave up a 3rd rounder for him. Oh wait, we're the Dolphins, we always give to much and get to little. Sorry, move along, nothing to see on this post. lol

For the love of Shula. stop sending our good players away. Keep Mathews for a long time.

I hope we do as he is really starting to emerge. That said....will we be able to afford to keep him?

If we are still trying to win this season then no I would not trade Matthews for a mid round draft pick which would be the most we would get for him anyway.

Matthews is our top, true WR right now. Why do we (some fans and FO) always seem to gravitate to getting rid of KNOWN, GOOD, PROVEN players for draft picks (UNKNOWN, UNPROVEN). From a purely logical standpoint, sounds like gambling to me.

It's not happening as the trade deadline has passed but there is also a business side to the game of the NFL. Matthews is a free agent next year and someone will overpay for him meaning he more than likely wont be back in Miami. So chances are he now walks and Miami gets nothing in return. If they could have traded him then they would have gotten something back for an asset.

I think it also has to do with knowing what chips you have to bargain with. WR happens to be an area where we are deep so if you are seeking a trade you have something to work with. Also, with him being a FA as ONole1 points out he will command more than the Dolphins are willing to, or may be able to pay. Better to trade him and get something for him.
