  • Bobby McCain starting Nickel

Per Cap'n Lou, Rookie Bobby McCain will be the nickel back in the Texans game...

    Omar Kelly ‏@OmarKelly
"As a young player, from the day he step foot here he showed the ability to make plays on the ball," Anarumo on Bobby McCain.

    Andrew Abramson ‏@AbramsonPBP
Anarumo on CB Bobby McCain: Some guys have a natural instinct of playing inside. Bobby has shown some of that.

"Some guys have a natural instinct for playing inside," Lou Anarumo on Bobby McCain, whom he says will improve with more playing time.
Taylor starts on the perimeter. Brice McCain is out.

Glad to see Bobby. This kid was very good at Memphis and has some natural instincts and ball skills. I was excited when we drafted this kid. Another one, like Ajayi, who dropped over supposed knee injury issues, along with his height. He and Grimes are both around 5-8.

Hopefully Jamar Taylor has finally turned the corner, he had a pretty solid game on Sunday...I guess b/c of Brice McCain's injury Bobby's gonna get a bit of trial by fire initiation; let's hope he's up to the challenge!

Agreed... Taylor and Brice have tried to out-suck each other all season. Regardless, I'm happy to see Bobby getting a chance to start.

These guys are going to have their hands full with DeAndre Hopkins, who was the AFC Offensive POW for his 10-catch, 148-yard performance...

Maybe we should line OV up at CB in front of him and have OV break Hopkins leg on the first play. Then line OV up at MLB and have him break Foster's leg on the next play. JK...

Bobby McCain is best suited to play inside as the nickel corner. The hope was that Jamar Taylor was finally ready to step up and start on the outside opposite Brent Grimes. I really thought we should have invested our 2nd round pick on a corner to give us some added depth and insurance in case Jamar Taylor either got hurt or was not ready to start. Instead we drafted Jordan Phillips. I would have drafted a DT later in the draft since it was not as high of a priority as secondary help.

I don't think DT was a need at all. AJ Francis and Anthony Johnson have potential and showed some skill....but we waived Johnson and Francis hasn't had many chances. We already had Mosely too. Why with 5 DTs (including 2 young ones) did we draft one?

This is nothing against Phillips - who may turn out to be really good. We just needed ILB, CB and OG infinitely more...

Again - and Tannenbaum was clear about it - they were drafting BPA based on their boards. Phillips was their highest rated player at that spot. Against TN, he had 26 snaps last week, which was about 40% of the defensive snaps. For the first time all year, our DL was doing what we expected and blowing up an opponents OL and masking deficiencies at CB, FS, and LB.

Conversely, I fully expect our 1st round pick to be defense - a LB, CB, FS, or DE... Jaylen Smith, Vernon Hargreaves, Jalen Ramsey, or Joey Bosa...

Yuck... did I really just say I want to draft a Gator or 'Nole? /SMDH... lol...

One of the problems with Miami is they don't draft enough Noles!!!! And yeah, Gators either...considering those two schools are ranked 4 and 5 with the most players in the NFL.

Next years draft needs to be all about defense as you stated, LB DB FS DE.

Only if we look at OL improvements in FA. I think we still need 2 OGs...unless someone improves dramatically over the rest of the season.

Well I would definitely look to upgrade Dallas Thomas's LG position in free agency. We haven't had the greatest of success in drafting our own OG's. Billy Turner played great in his debut last week so hopefully that continues and we only need to address the LG position next year.

          Per PFF... https://www.profootballfocus.com/blo...gs-for-week-8/

When cornerback Bobby McCain lines up in the slot, he’s allowed a yards per coverage snap of just 0.09, the best not just among*rookies, but all slot cornerbacks with at least 50 coverage snaps in the slot.

          :
We're gonna need him to be on his game tomorrow night.
