  • Sean Payton; let the speculation begin

This is probably nothing more than speculation on the writer's part & i'm sure as the only team currently with an interim HC, we'll be linked to every available coach out there from now to well after season's end...Let the speculation begin!

Sean Payton signed an extension with the Saints early in 2013 that runs through the 2017 season and pays him $8 million a year, but that's apparently not going to stop other teams from looking into his availability once the 2015 season comes to an end.

Yeah, they're talking about it on TV right now. I don't think it's right for anyone to even speculate on this without seeing what Dan Campbell does over the next 12 weeks. It's like they're already ruling him out. At least give the guy a fair shake.
While it takes two to have an argument, it only takes one to walk away.

I agree...as a matter of fact i'd much rather a guy like DC become the next great thing rather than have to go through the whole process of finding the best available retread...Also, there's always the chance that Sean Payton is just a decent coach who rode an elite QB to his coaching success, you never know!...

I'm hoping Campbell can turn this entire mess around. On paper we look to be a very talented team and my hope is that it was just a case of the players totally tuning Philbin and Coyle out. If that's the case and if they buy into Campbell, then we could see a pretty quick turn around. Key word as always is "IF".

I'm not so sure anymore, i used to think we had some serious talent but i'm starting to think this team isn't half as talented as most of us thought they were...I mean, we're downright B-A-D!!!

i hope all this coaching speculation to come in the future will not put a damper on DC's enthusiasm to make something out of this team with what's left of the season!

My fear for trading for Payton is that we would have to give up a first round pick. We might have a top 5 pick in the draft. We can't afford to give that up. We have so many needs we need all the draft picks we can get.

I think the thinking is that Payton may be on his way out as there seems to be growing dissention in NO...

Yes Payton might be on his way out but he has two more years left on his contract so the Saints are going to want something in return if they let him go.

Agreed... and considering he's a Parcells' acolyte and disciple, plus a personal friend of Ireland, I'm surprised Fin fans would be interested.

I have serious doubts that Tannenbaum is going to pursue him. Dan Campbell fits the bill of what Tannenbaum does with HC decisions and if Dan fails, look for Tbaum to take another surprise coach or coordinator to hire as the HC...

I wouldn't mind Chuck Pagano since he is also rumored to be on his way out.

Let's bring in someone that runs a pro style offense. That way we can get a real evaluation of RT at Quarterback. If we're going to keep Lazor and run this college offense, let's at least go get Manziel and have a guy that can run it. I prefer the pro style offense and Quarterback that fully understands the game, the position and has at least some of the intangibles required to be successful at the position. The Tannehill-Lazor tandem is an embarrassment. I like Pagano but would rather have him only as the DC if he is fired. This team does not have the starters, the QB or the offensive scheme to win under Campbell. It's a nice dream but this team is a joke. RDE, two LB spots, one CB spot and one Safety spot are liabilities on defense. Holes. On offense, we can't block and our offensive scheme is elementary. The practice squad beats them. Campbell is a Mensch for taking the job and we'll be happy to see some emotion on the sideline but the continuing nonsense about this team having the talent to be better than 1-3 is utter BS. It was one helluva con job. 3-13, 4-12 is realistic with a whole new staff coming in for 2016. Too bad Ross didn't win his bid to buy the Jets before he moved on to us.

Did I mention I'd love for Dan Campbell to prove himself and win this job. The guy fires me up. It would be awesome to have that tough of a guy as our head coach as long as he doesn't turn out to be the next Mike Singletary. If he shows he can manage the clock, properly handle timeouts and challenges and not completely lose his mind under pressure, I'm all for finding an OC and a DC to put underneath him.

After watching the Saints tonight, Sean Payton isn't going any where... You would never separate Brees and Payton.......... Ross probably would though,,,

Noooooo. If Campbell can turn it around, the job is his to turn down. We made the mistake of going after the "big name" coach once already and failed. Beyond that, Bowles should have been our guy. Promote from within if possible. We don't need another fired coach.

I'd love to have Peyton in Miami. Since this is the Dolphins, he'll probably turn it down and we'll give a 2-12 Campbell an extension.....
