Here is the latest...Basically reads to me that Duffner wont take the job and they don't feel anyone else is qualified so they are trying to go outside the organization, which is going to be tough if not impossible.

Duffner won't take the job for one of two reasons; either he is friends with Coyle & doesn't want to feel like he's stabbing him in the back (though i wish someone would..you know, stab Coyle in the back, literally..j/k, sort of...) or he thinks the job of trying to fix this D is beyond hope and an excursion into futility!

Agree on Armano's assessment that Philbin put together a very weak staff. Even if Dan can turn the team around and win enough games to earn the HC gig going forward, I'd expect to see more changes in the offseason.

If someone ON STAFF won't take the job the odds of them finding someone 'outside' the organization is almost futile. If they can't fire Coyle "maybe" they can force him to try his best to change his warped philosophy and play to players strengths, not weaknesses. What a stubborn jackass!

I think there's the assumption that Duffner was offered the job, but I haven't actually read where he was flat out offered the job and turned it down.

It could be that Dan want's his own man there. For all we know, they are in talks with someone from another team now.

I just can't see a 'qualified' outside guy coming in at this point when he pretty much knows there's gonna be another big shake-up at season's end & he'll be very possibly looking for work yet again...

My thought, and this is just my thought is that Duffner was asked if he would assume responsibility and he said no. I am not sure Mando would put the the word "willing" if he hadn't gotten wind that someone had been asked.

Depends on how ambitious someone is... like with HC's, there are only 32 DC and OC jobs. Even if these guys fail, unless they are just flat out incompetent, they usually get another shot somewhere else.

All things considered, not sure i'd take that job if i had the qualifications to do so, under present circumstances..

I'm an ambitious person myself and have made my living in IT consulting cleaning up other peoples messes, even when I know I could get kicked off projects if I were to screw up. I get a lot of personal satisfaction from it. I see this as the same sort of challenge for someone of a similar mindset with the proper qualifications. But I certainly understand why people wouldn't want to get involved - especially with our shatty LBs and DB issues at FS and CB.

The real hope is that a coach comes in who can get outside coordinators excited enough to WANT to come here. But I have no idea who that would be.
