  • Homer alert.. just saw presser

I just watched the press conference with Campbell and I'm excited. I felt like I was watching a young Don Shula, I felt like I was listening to a younger Bill Cowher. Clinched jaw, intense stare, commanding voice and tone.

He brings a toughness and intensity we need. The fact that he's played gives him the added respect from players.

Coyle needs to go. As for Lazor I'd prefer to retain him through the rest of the season and then evaluate the entire staff. But considering what we had in Philbin and what I saw in Campbell I think we're going to see a different team on the 18th.

This is the first fire I have seen in a coaches eyes since Shula. Here's hoping this is a diamond in the rough.

The funny thing is that he doesn't have a whole lot less coaching experience than Cowher did when the Roney's brought him on.

Funny. I just watched the press conference too and I was going to make a thread about it. I've liked Campbell ever since I saw him on Hard Knocks, even though I didn't know his name at the time or since, until today. One thing I took away from the press conference that "might" be interesting, possibly a coincidence, but I found it funny nonetheless. When Campbell was talking about the team and what he was planning on doing, he then expanded on his thoughts a little and mentioned the staff in the building, then mentioned that he was going to look at things and could be shifting things up a bit or something to that effect. Well, right when he started talking about the coaches Tannenbaum started coughing loudly. I was laughing, having Animal House flashbacks. "DON'T MENTION COYLE NOW, CAMPBELL!! EAT ME!! COUGH COUGH! COUGH!"

Somehow I thought of this when I saw your post:

I don't know how much change we can expect if we keep all of the other staff in place, especially Coyle, but I'm eager to see us beat the Titans on the 18th!

I agree with all of you that he needs to replace Coyles - that has to happen since IMO the defense is the biggest issue right now. The offense is truly offensive, but I do believe some if not most of the play calling has been dictated on falling behind early and getting terrible run/pass blocking from our oline, then throw in having almost half the time of possession that our opponents do. You're much more likely to continue to run the ball in a tie game or a close game. Unfortunately we get down by more than 2 scores at the end of the 1st qtr, your QB is getting constant pressure, and your run game is getting stuffed in the back field which makes it more difficult to stick with the game plan.

As for canning Lazor - maybe necessary but I believe the offense can get better and will get better with the return of Albert and hopefully more utilization of our rookie stud WR - Parker. Changing out the OC IMO is more difficult than changing our a DC since the defense needs to go back to basics, while the offense just needs to execute.
