  • Anyone Think Tannehill Has Improved?

After 3 games, I do not and have been one of his biggest fans. Let's start with some stats.

He has been sacked 7 times, tied for #8 with 4 others.

He is ranked #17 by NFL.

He is ranked #31 by PFF.

His 5 TD's are tied with 10 others for #8 BUT, 2 were after being down 27-0 (meaningless), 1 in the 2nd Q vs Wash, and 1 each in the 2nd and 3rd Q's vs Jax.

Excuses on protection matter some but, not close to the way he has played. I refer to Phins local analyst Kimbo, who said it's not on the protection, he is making a lot of bad throws.

The belief among analyst was that RT just had to be consistent for the year to elevate him to a legit top QB but, he has not been able to even do that for a game.

I have also not seen the leadership I had hoped for.

I'm hoping the season turns around for RT, as that will mean the same for our team but, am starting to have some doubts.

You can not make a accurate determination on a player with a inept Scheme or un-qualified Coaches.. Or both!... Shit rolls down hill...

I agree, I don't even want to talk about our secondary players or our OL at this point, it's all possible they are good players that have no idea what they are supposed to be doing other than you do this or that in practice. Doesn't matter if there's no game plan, you can teach technique all you want, you still lose.....

Benching Phillips, the only guy with a sack...I guess Wake and OV must have great technique in practice......

And another thing I have about all this technique BS, we don't even have a guy on D that can tackle, you think maybe that's a technique we might want to master??????

How many times last year did we miss tackle after tackle, then again this year???, You come to the Dolphins good, you leave a no tackling poor player, then you go to another team, and you remember how to do all those things again.....

Tannehill has always been inconsistent and streaky. Last season he struggled in the first 3 games, then played pretty well for a long stretch of games.

Was hoping for his progression to continue this season, but I'm not seeing it either. He's been late on throws and also "off". His footwork at times is not good either. I was wondering in the Bills' game if the ankle injury was affecting him as he was off more that game than any other this season.

Right now, he most reminds me of Eli - and that's not a good thing as we don't have a stout OL, running game, or defense as it's evident that he can't carry the team without a strong supporting cast. While I don't think he's the reason we've lost 2 games, he certainly didn't step up and win them.

There is a lot of things I am seeing from him this year. One thing I am noticing a lot is that he is throwing falling back. It's almost like he has gotten gun shy. RT is one tough SOB, I may have issues with other parts of his game but not his toughness so not sure why he is doing this.

In the preseason I thought he was much improved with his ball placement but once the season started it actually looks worse than it has been. He seems to have regressed in his pre-snap reads as well.

It's hard to judge him based on this staff and it's incompetence.

I think this is the key point. In preseason no one game plans, us or the opponent. Basically, no coaching a level playing field. As soon as the regular season started, the other teams started game planning for us.....and we still had no game plan for them. So we are very competitive when you take the coaches out of the equation on both sides. But when it's our coaches against theirs we are way behind the curve.

Agreed... worried we're turning him into David Carr... just too many damned hits and can't protect him.

His footwork against the Bills was the worst all season. Glad we have the BYE coming up. Maybe the entire team can heal up and get healthy before we face the Titans in 2 weeks.

My bet is he's still hurt, each game this team is getting worse, he's probably checking on his life insurance policy today.....

I thought in years past you were able to catch our games at the sports bar...That's the only way i can see them if they're not on National TV (since i got rid of DirecTV/Sunday Ticket) but i elected to skip the game against the Bills b/c i knew we were gonna get stomped & didn't want to drop 50 bucks for the opportunity..I guess you can say that my masochism only goes so far!

Interesting point thinking he might be a bit gun shy because along those same lines i've noticed a change in the way he runs with the ball on the read option..In years past he attacked the D on that particular play and when he did keep the ball, he went totally on the offensive and ran with authority..On the few plays he's elected to run the ball this season he seems almost timid and looking to get down at the earliest sign of contact..Maybe he no longer has any confidence...

In layman's terms I think Tannehill sucks. Yes, he has padded his stats over the years, throwing his 3 yard passes when the Dolphins are going against a 3rd and long, but that doesn't make him a good quarterback and it certainly doesn't get the team a first down when there is a defensive back draped all over said receiver. In his rookie year a looked to have a ton of upside but after watching him play for three season, and three games into his fourth season, I have seen little improvement on the THINGS THAT ACTUALLY MATTER! He did "seem" to have improve on certain things but overall, he he has not improved on the things that would catapult him to a good quarterback. Pocket presence? (Sucks) Vision down the field? (Sucks) Accuracy? (Sucks past 15 yards) Touch? (F) Arc? (F) Overall QB rating from a fan? (C+...and that is being generous)

I have noticed that as well. He seems indecisive when there is an opportunity to run with the ball. I hate to say it but I just don't think he is going to get any better than what he has already shown. I think he has maxed out his potential. I don't think he has good instincts for the QB position. I think he will continue to play well at times but remain inconsistent and continue to struggle on 3rd downs and in the 4th quarter. Thats just who he is.

This may be far fetched but, have to wonder if the BIG deal and media attention (mag covers, off season appearances) might have something to do with it. Human nature for most would dictate that he has enough money for life, has a knockout wife, and is somewhat liked by media and sponsers. More to risk than before this year, and he does appear to be more politically correct post game.

More likely me just looking for a reason he has gotten off to a bad start.
