  • Raheem Mostert

The Dolphins signed a RB/WR/KR from the Eagles practice squad. Raheem Mostert led the league in preseason in yards from scrimmage and kick return average. This kid is a speedster who ran track in high school at New Smyrna Beach, FL and also ran track at Purdue, was the Big 10 champ at 100 and 200 meters.

He was an undrafted free agent that they put on the practice squad. This kid has a 4.28 40 yard dash on his resume'. Several of you had mentioned in other posts we need a back with dangerous speed, here he is! Since he was picked from another team's practice squad he hits our active for 3 weeks. Dolphins web site says he will be in the LaMike James role, in fact wearing #27. One more note, kid is stoked to be back home and on the active roster.

I like this signing. I hope for the best for this kid and I hope he becomes an excellent return man for the Dolphins. I can't remember when we had one the specifically ran back kicks.

Hopefully he will make some plays for us.

I really prefer to NOT have one of our best playmakers returning kicks. (Landry) So, even though I would really like Jonas Gray to be on the active roster I have to support this move.

New Smyrna is about 30 miles from my house. I'll see if I can get any more info on him.

My dad was from New Smyrna. So I'm rooting for him.

I was a little disappointed when Christion Jones wasn't given at least one game to prove himself but this guy, Mostert, is a proven, dynamic return guy that can blaze. It would be nice to get a RB that can catch out of the backfield and have the speed and elusiveness to really hurt defenses. Utilizing his RBs in the passing game and hitting them in stride is another weakness of Tannehill's but it's still nice to know you have a touchdown waiting to happen returning kicks. The UPS guy, Bernie Parmalee, is the last Dolphin I can remember that was a real weapon as a receiver coming out of the backfield.
One thing for sure about our new return guy, once this dog gets past you, it's hard to catch up with Mostert. (And HERE come the boo-birds. "Thank you. Thank you.")

5-11 and 180 lbs. Granted they don't all have 4.3 speed, but we have a lot of guys this size already. Bobby McCain, Matthews, Williams, and a few others could fulfill this role.

He looked like dynamite for the Eagles, so it's curious that they left him open. Personally, I was hoping for a bigger short yardage back who could run with power and violence for at least 1 damn yard...

Mostert is listed at 5' 10 inches and 195, but your point is well taken. I am glad to see a guy with sub 4.3 speed, we need that. But we could also use a 250 lb bruiser that can knock a DT backwards for that tough yard in short situations. Maybe Phillips as the new Fridge?

Eagles have too many RB's on their roster as it is lol. I am excited to see him return kicks. Honestly we haven't had a proven kick returner in a long time. Look at what Lockett is doing in Seattle. It is a huge deal to have a guy that can take it to the house at any time. I like this move. I'm not as high on Gray as many here. He's a nice player, and could serve a role until Ajayi gets back, but that is the guy I really want to see in this lineup. We definitely need a power back after seeing how we handled the short yardage against the Skins.

You mean apart from Landry? lol...

Landry finished #4 in KR and #5 in KR Yards at 954. He finished 174 yards behind the KR league leader.
#5 in yards per KR at 28.1 after leading the league for a part of last season...
#4 in All purpose yards with 1,912
#5 in yards per touch at 13.2.
#3 in combined KR and PR yards.

Agreed, but until (if ever) Stills and Parker show up as legitimate consistent threats in the passing game Landry is just too valuable to be returning kicks. They still have Landry slated to return punts which I don't like any better.

Yes apart from Landry, although despite his natural talent as a returner I really don't want to see him doing it and potentially getting hurt, he is too valuable to our offense.

I hear you, but I was responding specifically to the part about, "Honestly we haven't had a proven kick returner in a long time. "

Landry is proven. Now you're just being greedy for another proven returner... lol...
