I noticed that he was in the game a lot in the 2nd half. Does anyone know why?

  • #2
I don't know why, haven't heard anything, but it seemed they were grasping for a spark. Someone to make plays in the LB group since the DL was pretty much getting manhandled. Just my observations, he seemed to be active and in on plays when he was on the field.

      Probably because Sheppard was horrible.
While it takes two to have an argument, it only takes one to walk away.

That was my thoughts... Sheppard is a nice guy, but he's a backup anywhere else.

      Did they pull Sheppard?

He went out and didn't come back, I haven't heard of any injury to him, so my best guess would be yes.

Just read on the sentinel that they had pull Sheppard on passing downs because he was bad in coverage.

Other than that and the run defense I thought he was alright!

We need a traditional MLB with instincts, but we're lacking in that dept. Misi is the closest thing we have, but we're lacking at SLB as well as Chris McCain couldn't secure the position this offseason. I'm fine with rotating Vigil and Sheppard at MLB for now in hopes that Vigil will develop. My concerns are that Vigil didn't look quick enough laterally, but the kids a gamer. Would be nice to see him develop.

Its a shame that Dion Jordan doesn't seem to take football too seriously and that even if he did our coaches do not seem to realize that he needs to play at OLB. With his size and athleticism there is no reason why he shouldn't be a dominant OLB. That would have enabled Misi to play at MLB.

Can't gauge or coach heart... either you have it or you don't. He had all the talent and athleticism he needed though. I think the coaches miscast him and had him put on all that weight to be something he wasn't and he lost what heart he had for the game.

Hate Jenkins looked so bad yesterday as well. I think it was one of his worst games too and he's our best LB.

It was just a bad day overall for our front 7. I think once the D-line starts playing like they are supposed to then our LB corps will look better. I think drafting a MLB in the first three rounds next year will be a priority. Also lets hope that DJ comes back sheds that weight he gained and we play him as the SAM LB. Thats the role he is best suited for in the NFL.

Yeah, I was really hoping we'd draft Ryan Shazier at LB last year.. I prefer to draft BPA instead of need regardless of position. Seems we're always in the wrong slot to get BOTH BPA and a need position.

I don't think any of our LB's can cover worth a sh#t; Jordan Reed (who is just o.k.) made our LB's look foolish, hate to see what Gronkowski's gonna do to 'em!

Unfortunately for us DJ who was an absolute stud at dropping back into coverage will more than likely never suit up for us again....As far as Vigil playing quite a bit in the opener; IMO, it speaks volumes..and not in a good way!

I remember when they said a high profile person in the Dolphins' front office threw his clipboard across the room when the Steelers selected Ryan Shazier before Miami picked. Sheppard stinks. He is slow to react and tentative to act. We should go with Misi and let Vigil keep developing. It's worth it to gamble on McCain on the outside if it means keeping Sheppard on the sideline. Or better yet, cut Sheppard and bring back that Penn State LB that wanted to get his hands on ball carriers, wrap them up and bring them down. He was adequate in coverage and is smart enough to improve with some seasoning. Dion Jordan is not going to work for us here. I'd like to throw him into the trade with Dallas. Kenny Stills and Dion Jordan for Lael Collins and a seventh round pick.

Yeah, they had already told Shaz he was the guy and was at draft in Aqua in preparation. Fooking Steelers took him. Not complaining about James, but when BOTH Shaz and Martin went off the board right before we picked, it really changed the dynamic of the draft for us. James has been steady at RT and was more of a need pick than BPA. I'd have rather taken Pryor or Clinton-Dix, but understand the move.

Good to know. Hopefully he improves to the point to being a starter over Sheppard...

Sheppard was getting abused (especially in coverage) and Vigil has been consistently good since he came in for a tryout. I personally like what I've seen from him and hope he really bulks up this coming off season. I think he could be our starter in time....he's already been playing too well to keep him off the field.

Not sure what I thought about them playing Hewitt and making McCain inactive though....

Vigil certainly wasn't any worst than Sheppard. For a rookie UDFA, he's come a long way as he's already in the starting rotation. McCain was lost at OLB. He brought nothing as a pass rusher and just sort've slammed himself into guys. Maybe he learns some technique still though and we see him again.

Vigil is 6'2" and 240 according to the roster.

Yeah, I like Vigil's instinct, but I just think he is limited physically. At this point they should bring in Mason Foster for a look as they have to do something.

Agree on Vigil. He seems to lack fluid lateral movement. Still hate that Tripp couldn't stay healthy. Huge disappointment there.
