  • Dolphins OL Run Down

I enjoy watching the "Big Uglies" and have been watching the Phins OL on film every game for years, and it has been tuff to watch in recent years. My run down, at this point, for 2015.

C- Pouncey is back to where he once belonged with a Big contract, and I expect a big year from him. He will be a huge upgrade from Satele to stabilize our interior blocking.

OG- I'm a long time defender of Dallas and really liking his play to quiet many fans who had no patience. He looks to be at least average for this year.

I like Turner but, he is somewhat going through what Thomas did last year. There will be bumps in the road but, I can see him as a viable starter who is developing and improving. He has the talent, just needs some time.

I like Douglas but, he is going through the rookie transition. I believe he is more ready than the other two in their first years and may just earn a starting spot.

RT- James had a good year for a rookie until he was moved. Leave him where he belongs, and he will be at least good this year.

LT- Here's where concerns enter in. Albert is as good as it gets when healthy. I don't know if he will be good to go for game #1, and IF he is, doubt he will maintain for 16 games.

I'm not sold on Fox. If he could not keep Dallas from RT last year, don't know that he can this year, and now there is the concussion question. Need to consider a vet band aid here.

    Opinions?

I mostly agree except for the Fox and Thomas at RT. I'm not sold on Fox at LT at all. He was bad against CAR. Albert was still limping last week as well so if any one of these guys go down during the year we're screwed because there is no depth. I wasn't on board with this until after I watched the 2nd preseason game but I think the Dolphins need to give Jake Long a call and sign Mathis. Both will add talent and depth.

LT is absolutely my biggest concern. They have got to do something to bring in some depth. Cuch mentioned about signing Mathis and putting Turner at his natural position LT. Not sure if that's not such a bad option.

Great analysis. I am still concerned about the Guard play. Preseason has not been much of a test for them. My nightmare is these guys do not make the grade at guard and Albert doesn't make it back. I wake up in a cold sweat on that one.

I think Onole or Cuch mentioned Jake Long as a stop gap. If not just stick a TE or Back to at least a nudge off balance before delayed routes.
Just frolic and live in the now like Dolphins and Man's best friend.

Can't imagine moving Turner to cover RT's blind side. At this point in time, it may be worse than Dallas at RT last year, and I think it would be. I can see him moving to OT down the line but, not now.

I'm looking at a number of indicators on the interior and overall. Last year, we had Colledge and Satele off the unwanted list to go with Shelly, Pouncey (out of position), and Dallas playing 3 games each on both sides at OG. No one ever played together, barely knew each others name, in a new O with a new coach. A recipe for disaster guaranteed, and I thought they would be worse than 2013.

Yet, for 9 games under Benton, they held up well, Miller ran, RT passed and did not get killed at all, while facing some VG DL's.

                FF to this year.

So far, we have tweet which don't tell us much, and we have seen little vs questionable opposition. However, we have coaches and FO, who have seen these guys in practice with tons of tape saying, in words and actions (by no potential replacements). that they are OK at OG. IMO, Dallas, Turner, and Douglas are NFL starters to be, and will improve as the season moves along with some problems here and there.

No answer or confidence at LT without knowing more on Albert, and who may come available by trade or final cuts for a band aid vet.

Aside from the Albert question, I see us as better that what we had for the first 9 games last year, which we can all live with.

In the end we may be just "OK" with the line as is, if Albert plays and everyone stays healthy. Wish one of them would become a surprise player. Truthfully, I want us to add Mathis. It would just solidify the interior for us.

The only news I saw on Big Jake was a visit to Denver, who is desperate for OT help. They did not make him an offer. Anthony Collins is also out there. After signing a big deal, he was cut by TB after one horrible year. From what I read, he could be had for the min.

Philbin has said that we will look at all options by the end of the week when asked who would replace Fox.

Good to know, never thought of Collins. I know he ain't much cause nobody else is running to sign him but might be better than any we got at the moment.

They may wait until after the first game to bring someone in. If they do that the salary is not guaranteed. I mentioned Collins in another thread, but he was the worst rated LT in the NFL last year for what it's worth...LOL

Pouncey, we got suckered on paying an average Joe way more than average money. Pouncey only looks good as a Dolphin, that's because we have the #1 worse OL in the league.

The rest are all garbage and couldn't start on another team.

Except Fat Albert, if he stays healthy...

Sorry to have to post this, but the truth hurts, remember...just because they are Dolphins, that doesn't make them worth a dime...It's what they've done on the field that makes them worth wild....

RT better get his hauling arse shoes on, he's going to need them.....
