  • Omar Kelly: Mathis leaves Seattle without deal

"@Mia_Sports1: hey O, Mathis already left his meeting with Seattle without a deal. They're one of his top teams."» guess I was wrong.

Great send him to Miami! The weather is great! And we damn sure could use him.

Seattle is bringing in Sampson Satele today. My guess is Seattle thought a legit shot at a ring could get him to sign for cheap and Mathis wasn't having it.

They lost Unger at Center. HUGE loss for them even though it got them Jimmy Graham. Satelle is not a bad filler and he performed admirably for us. Just not a star center by any means. But he is cheaper than Mathis.

What is the issue with Mathis? Is he just asking for too much money? You think a dozen teams would jump on a Pro Bowl caliber starting Guard. Or is he just past his prime and no one think he is worth what he thinks he is? Somethings off.

I guess he still wants too much dough.

Is he worth it is the question? Would we be overpaying for a guy who is over the hill?

I think Mathis wants a lot of money and a longer deal than anyone wants to commit to for a player his age. I think a lot of teams (Miami included) would pay his asking price for a one year deal, but not for 4 or 5 years. He will play this year I predict, but where and for how long?

It's definitely money with Mathis. He's hoping to make at least the 5.5 million per he was scheduled to make in Philly....
Still, if Billy Turner gets Tannehill killed back there, how much is that worth?

Hey Alpha, haven't seen you around @ Phinatics in like forever!

I read that not only is Mathis looking to recoup the 5.5 mill. he lost getting released by Philly, he's actually looking for the two years - Probably looking for most of that guaranteed (Only speculation on my part)

Read today that Seattle is now gonna be looking at Samson Satele...That's kind of like passing on the Filet Mignon & saying 'I'll have the Cat Food instead!'

According to Rosenhaus, Mathis is supposed to pick his team this week. Seahawks, Dolphins, Titans and Chiefs are supposed to be the frontrunners. I don't know what to believe anymore. If those reports were true that the Dolphins only offered him 2 million then there is no way he is coming to Miami. In my opinion it looks like Seattle might be bringing in Satele to give Mathis a nudge and let him know that a Super Bowl caliber team is not signing a player no other team is going after for the price he is asking. The Seahawks will probably sign him to a 2-year deal for around 4 million per year. Just a guess.

                          Hey DF,
yeah, you're probably right..My gut tells me that the Fins have removed themselves from the 'sweepstakes' & are cluelessly content with what they have! I also feel that Mathis will continue to ride it out just a bit longer & ultimately get a deal a bit more to his liking...

Glad to see you made the trip over here, DP!!

Yes, I am NOT liking this whole Mathis situation at all. False rumors have been circulating so I am hoping that the 2 million dollar slap in the face to Mathis was just that, a rumor, and the Dolphins didn't really offer him something so low. That seems more like an Ireland-type move not a Tannenbaum-Hickey move. I think they are either just not interested OR they are playing it cool and waiting for the right time to swoop in and snatch Mathis up from any team interested. Most fans, including myself, thought that the Suh signing was going to be it for free agents but this sneaky front office was also trying to sign Randall Cobb at the same time. (At least that is what the reports stated) So, maybe this front office is laying low, keeping quiet like a cat and waiting to pounce when the time is right. Well, right now, the time is right!!

Mathis is going to have to sign very soon, otherwise his stock will drop and he'll have to wait till someone gets injured. Not sure he'll get a good price then....
