  • Now That Preseason Is Over......

I'm not so sure the Dolphins have improved much this year. Very little improvements on the offense, but the defense is pretty strong. They will have to carry the offense (again) this year. I hope I'm wrong, but I've got a bad feeling the Dolphins will lose the first 3 games that everyone thinks they will win, and will end up with no better than 8-8 record this year. I know preseason is trying out new people, new schemes and coaches, but it is a dress rehearsal for the regular season. The Dolphins were 1-3 during preseason, and after watching them for the past 4 games, I'm just not impressed. Their starters looked OK, coaching remains poor, and a few guys with some flash. How many win-losses are you guys thinking now that preseason is over?

If pre-season is any indication on how good a team is; then we're in trouble.. I hope I'm wrong..

I'm thinking the same. If the above is true, I need to forget about everything I have seen, heard, and read on this team and start over.

I think you're forgetting how vanilla and close to the vest we've played and that we've done nothing to really show opponents what we'll look like once the season starts. Not sure what you're referring to with little improvements and IMO, the offense carried the defense most of the latter part of last season when the D fell apart and couldn't hold leads or stop opponents from scoring. There's a reason we dumped Hartline, Wallace, Starks, and Odrick and brought in Suh, Phillips, Parker, Jennings, Stills, Ajayi, and a slew of DBs.

I see LOTs of improvements... Also, Tannehill is clearly playing a higher and more consistent level. He was good last season, but I think he finally "arrives" this season. I'm as excited to see this team as I've ever been.

Lose to the 1st 3 games? Skins, Jags, and Bills. Only concern there is the Bills game, but I think we still win it.

I thought the starters with the vanilla plays out scored opponents 28-3 and the only reason the D allowed 3 was because of the botched punt snap putting Atlanta close to FG range. Also there could've been another TD if Williams didn't fumble in the endzone.

Sorry you took offense as none was intended. I deleted the post, just struck me as funny.

I think this sums it up perfectly. If you look at nothing but our record, sure, you see 1-3. All that number tells you is our depth players weren't as good as our opponent's depth. That shouldn't come as much surprise, seeing as we've JUST gotten to the point where we have NFL-caliber starters. Those starters, though, were absolutely dominant every time they took the field. The offense may not have made the big, flashy plays, but it's preseason, and beyond that, that just isn't the type offense they're looking to implement. I love seeing a 99-yard touchdown as much as anybody, but in the long run, this West Coast, possession-based scheme is a lot more sustainable. Remember, in a normal year, half our games are played in South Florida. I'd rather grind down the opponent's defense for a 14 play, eight minute TD drive than to put ours right back out after a two play, 45 second TD. The end result is the same, but shifts the wear and tear off of your own players and onto the opponent. All in all, I was thrilled with this preseason. The defense showed it was everything that we hoped it to be, and more, the offense showed a level of efficiency far beyond what I expected, and, for the most part, we avoided any major injuries. It's hard to want much more than that out of your preseason.

From what I saw in preseason (watching the starters and key rotational players like Shelby, Francis, etc) I think this is the best Dolphins team I have seen in many many years.

I think Tannehill is really starting to emerge and elevate his game both as a leader and on the field. I think Miller looks like a solid #1 back and we have others that can play. Our receivers are as good as any I can remember in Aqua (I'd say we have 5 that could start and one or two more that are clearly worth a spot on a 53 somewhere). Our DL could be one of the best ever. I think we're solid at TE and we have some good, key players in the secondary.

My concerns are OL - which has some very good players and Thomas improving (but we can't afford an injury there) and at LB where we have Jelani Jenkins and then a "buncha guys". Some of the Rookies flashed potential, but I think they'll just be special teams barring injuries pushing them to play. I think we must pick up a veteran FS....I'm not comfortable with Aikens starting at this point.

OK here is my first warning...its going to be a long season and there are going to be some ups and downs. DO NOT start with the name calling and antagonizing. Not going to have it here. And if you see something you don't like, just report it and let us handle it. We have a good vibe here and I am not going to let it get deteriorated. So let's be respectful.
