  • Tannehill Set For Breakout Year per Around The NFL

I hope Tannehill reads this, I'm getting tired of waiting for his "breakout" year. Been thru 4 of then so far....

Will this be the season Ryan Tannehill finally emerges as "the guy" in Miami? With the help of coach Adam Gase and a talented group of receivers, Tannehill might finally escape quarterback purgatory.

I read this story before ............three years ago, two years ago and last season. This better be his make it or break it season. If he does not have a breakout season it's time to draft a quarterback in the first round. I really hope he has a breakout season because he has no excuses at all this year. Injuries are no excuse anymore. This team has done enough for one player. He carries this team on his back or he gets replaced, it's a simple as that.

What we need is a ''breakout'' season by the OL where they perform to league average and a consistent running game with balance. I think we'll see that this season under Gase and Christensen.

Tannehill will be fine. His individual performance has been fairly consistent considering the dysfunction and lack of support he endured under Philbin. He averages 25 TDs a season. He needs to up the production to 32 +/- 2. If this current supporting cast plays up to their potential, that should be well within reach and we should be able to get 9 wins.

Well, I'm not getting my hopes up this year. I would rather be surprised at a good year than being disappointed again like the last 3 years....... OK, really the last 20 years.

Yeah, no one is expecting a SB or for Tannehill to move into the ''Elite'' tier of QB, but if the OL can move up from the 31st range and the running game can move up from 25th, then we should be much improved overall on offense and see Tannehill have his best season ever.

Hopefully, or Defense will also be much improved. Also, given that our sideline will now be shaded in games, all of the players should be a little more energetic late in games.

I right there with you. Every season there are articles and NFL "experts" talking about this is going to be Tannehill's breakout season. Talk is cheap and Excuses are a plenty, and old. Gase has been riding Tannehill hard in OTA's and it appears that Gase seems the same problems with Tannehill as many fans do and is not letting Tannehill get away it it. So, that gives me hope that his game will improve rather then just stays the same as every other season. It's his season to shine. He has a ton of new toys to play with, this will be his best line to date and even the head coach was hired because of his mediocre ____! He will have a breakout season OR the Dolphins will be drafting a QB in round one of the draft, period.

What you mean is that is what SHOULD happen. I wouldn't be putting money on either.

I have always had hope but it's been dashed every year as has everyone else's..I still have hope but I no longer expect my hopes to be fulfilled. I won't go so far as to say I'm pessimistic but I'm not real optimistic anymore either.

I am right there with you on everything you stated. I didn't like the Gase hire but I am warming up to him because he seems to be a no-nonsense type of coach and it appears he takes a very cerebral approach to coaching football. We might have found our coach of the future, meaning, one that will last more than 3-5 years. I am not optimistic but I do have a glimmer of hope that the Miami Dolphins may have gotten lucky with this hire and he might just be able to turn this ship around.

I'm right there with you about not really liking the hire but since he hasn't proved anything to me yet, I'm in wait and see mode.

I hope he does it and not an ecxcuse because he had so many coordinator changes.

He had 1 HC, 1 QB coach, and 2 OC's... not sure what the ''so many coordinator changes'' stems from. Sounds like a Blomar talking point where he was claiming Dallas Thomas was actually pretty decent and the QB made him look bad.

This year makes a 3rd. That's a lot in 5 years. Just hoping he is a fast learner and be successful with this System. Off course one can only do so much if the Oline isn't up to par. I get that.

We play in a division with 3 outstanding Defensive coaches as HC's. Figuring out Lazor and Philbin wasn't that challenging, especially with a shit OL and a HC and OC that didn't care about balance or running the ball.

Tannehill needs to continue to improve and grow in the position, but he has not been the main reason for the losing under Philbin, nor the reason for the poor position coaches either.

I think tannehill will become a good nfl qb when he takes all the advice and direction he's received over the years and make all that HIS own. when he takes all the the things that coaches have taught him and he starts directing, infusing that into his game and stop that stuff from running his game! under sherman he was pounded not to make the big mistakes(ints) and that lead to him,IMHO having trouble making the decision to shoot the long ball or check down. marino was one just to let it fly and worry about what happens after.tannehill IMHO throws the ball way to late down field. I think he waited way to long to shoot the ball when wallace was here and IMHO it was because he could hear sherman in his head! IMHO he should ,like ben rothlesburger pull the ball down earlier and get out of the pocket and extend the play and forget about sticking so rigidly to the play!

Tannehill has real receivers this year . Wallace was a joke, I said get Ginn back he did the same thing at a lower price ( stretch the field) SOMEONE here said watch when he goes to a different team he will flourish. Big Ben made him. Tannehill had no problem connecting with Parker when he got healthy the last 3 games numbers proved it. Tannehill not great by no means, but as good as Dalton, Flacco, and believe it or not if you go by last year Some could say Luck. I will wait to judge this year, with an OL and a defense like Wilson and Dalton have enjoyed

Agree, Zonk... Wallace is on his 4th team, and Hartline is still unsigned. Tannehill gave these guys each one of the best seasons as a pro. Bess, Legadu, and the other warm bodies, are completely out of the NFL.

Tannehill needs to continue to improve his own game and take a more active leadership role, but this is the first time since he's been here that he has a solid supporting cast and guys who can actually make plays and give real effort. Excited to see our offense with a healthy Parker, Carroo, Landry, Stills, and Cameron, along with an actual run game. Can't wait.

There are two HOF receivers for you, Wallace and Hartline! Should have replaced Duper and Clayton easily except one thing, A complete lack of talent.

Tannehill better load up on the Clearasil because by 'breakout' year i can only assume they're saying he's in for a bad case of acne,, i mean really, what else could they be talking about?!

I've seen enough good and bad from Tannehill to honestly have no freaking clue. His oline has sucked no doubt, his coaches have sucked not doubt. His WR's have been crap no doubt. Problem is Tannehill has sucked too. He's missed wide open WR's, he's held the ball too long, he's done enough to give us a glimmer of hope and a handful of doubt. The proof will only happen on the field, and it hasn't yet.

I agree, (Obviously) I've seen enough to think that we are in a Fiedler situation all over again. The great news is there is a new coaching staff that has no ties to him. The bad news is that the Dolphins have an owner that gets emotionally attached to people, and doesn't put business first and personal feelings second. Hopefully if Gase is not happy with Tannehill that Ross won't stop him from moving forward and finding a QB he does have faith in. I hope we don't need to find a new QB but most signs seem to be pointing in that direction. We should have to have the stars to align to have a quarterback that can actually play the position like an NFL QB and not make high school mistakes.

We havent scored enought points when it mattered, in the red zone all game, when behind in Q4. I would like to see with my eyes a few times when RT carries the team on his back. My expectation is that this would be a result of everything clicking for him which would also show up in improvements in total season stats. If he cannot improve we should draft a QB for competition or replacement depending on RTs results this year..

TRUE DAT KATO!!! And you can round out the list with shabby 3rd down conversion percentage...We can make every excuse in the book for Tannehill (some legit, others not so much) let's face it, when the game gets BIG (Red Zone, 4th Qtr & converting on 3rd or 4th down) RT plays very, very small..

If this doesn't change, we'll continue to be the same mediocre team we've been for decades!

Everyone agrees that our OL has been dogshat, oru running game under used or abandoned each game, our coaches pretty much garbage, and our defense riddled with injuries or just lacking talent, BUT in the ultimate team sport, the QB is supposed to overcome all of that and carry the team even when opponents know all they had to do was was for the offense to 1 dimension, then run over Dallas Thomas or Jason Fox.

We watched the Pats struggle last season down the stretch where they went 2-4 and Brady finished the last 2 games throwing 1 TD and 1 INT before getting knocked out of the game by the Fins.

OL's matter guys, and their performance directly correlates to the QB's performance. Excited to see our OL changes and the new man schemes under Foerrester. If we can stay healthy, we should surprise some teams.

                    YMMV.

I really don't think you should preach about the importance of OFFENSIVE LINEMEN since I am the one who has been SCREAMING about building the offensive line for YEARS while you kept wanting to draft wide receivers and other positions ahead of offensive lineman. You always backed and supported the previous coaching staffs decisions to go with WHAT THEY HAD on the roster, stating that they knew what they were doing and how Dallas Thomas will be fine and have a great season, and the same went with the other nobody's on their previous rosters. You backed the previous coaching staff for NOT going after offensive lineman, stating that they were fine. Your previous posts don't back you own words that you are stating today.

Lol... Is it that time of the month already?

You do realize that most teams can draft quality OLmen outside the first round, right?

As for wanting skill players over OL in the 1st - YES. And I will 8 out of 10 times. Our WRs were mostly garbage most of Philbins tenure: Hartline, Bess, Marlon Moore, Legadu, Wallace, Gibson, etc...

As for what I personally wanted in the 1st round the past 3 years, I wanted a DE or CB this past draft, a WR in the 2014 draft, and a LB in the 2013 draft. We ended up with Tunsil this draft, Parker last draft, and James the previous draft. Hardly beating the drum for WRs every season.

What I said - and we've had this conversation several times now - is that the coaching staff would not give up on players in year 2 or 3 of their development (Philbin was stubborn) and that quality OLmen can be found outside the 1st round. Philbin had a love affair with Dallas Thomas for some reason and was going to stick with him regardless.

Explaining my opinion on the reasoning for their decision is NOT the same as backing their decision.

                  • #15
I am with you Cuch. I have agreed with upgrading the O line, not in the 1st round. Tunsil was a freak storm that rarely happens, good choice. My biggest concern is that RT will be a Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, Alex Smith, Philip Rivers, Eli Manning, etc., etc. Will never have a "breakout year" and become a Marino, Elway, Brady, Peyton Manning franchise QB. Then what? We went undefeated and won 2 Superbowls with Morral and Griese, are we saying RT isn't that caliber? I think he is, but he cannot and never will make a playoff team out of one of the worst rosters in the NFL like Marino did year in and year out and like Brady is doing right now. But he isn't RGIII, Kaepernick, Jamarcus Russell or Manzeil either. Yet somehow he gets more blame his way than any of those guys do. If this team does finish 6 and 10 there will be plenty who will blame RT. But how many tackles, interceptions and sacks should he make? Each man on this team, coaches included needs to man up and take responsibility for their own performance, if they do this team will be better than 6 and 10 no matter what RT does.
