  • Jake Long?

Long is looking to make a comeback and says he is finally feeling 100%. He wakes up with no pain and says the spring is back. The whole year lay off has done him good and he's ready to rumble. The Bears are the only team I know of to give him a look at OT and opted not to sign him. I know many of you out there think we needed to sign or draft OGs to play OG for us, as do I, but that hasn't been the case so this is the reality of it. This is where we are. I like our squad. I think we have huge potential. But names like Jacques McClendon and Dallas Thomas always keep me hoping to add better competition into the mix. If Long doesn't find a deal to play OT, maybe we could bring him in to give it a go at Guard. One thing he is is a mauler. I suggested years back to move him inside to maximize his strengths and minimize his weaknesses. I thought being able to play more compact with more of an emphasis on anchoring would limit the injuries he's endured with the stretching and reaching that has come with dealing with speed rushers on the outside. He may cost more than the aforementioned backups we have but then again, you wouldn't be terrified to see Long jogging into the huddle and strapping up his chin strap. Who's to say he wouldn't start. We can afford him. You can never have too many 1st rounders on your O line. And he just may be happy to come home.

I agree... and the issue with Albert isn't IF he'll go down, but when. We have Tunsil who is obviously the future LT, but I could see the logic in bringing in Big Jake for a low and safe salary to take over the LT position when Albert goes down and helping to ensure the integrity of the pass and run blocking this season.

Also be nice if Jake could finish up where he started.

Never really thought Long was that good. He was always hurt. Maybe as you guys are saying, when Albert is hurt, Long can fill in.

Since talking about bringing in ghosts from the past, why not just bring back Davone Bess too? He's making Ricky Williams look normal....

yeah, but who's gonna fill in when Long goes down as he inevitably will...The guys best days are long, Long gone (pardon the pun!)

Albert usually is good for 9 games. If Jake could give us 5-7 of competent play, while leaving the rest of the OL intact, I'll take it.

Of course now Pouncey can't start or finish a season either it seems... /sighs

Yeah count me in on Long. He could be had on the cheap and if he is in good shape he could be a serviceable back-up etc. Kind of like Samson Satele was a couple years ago.

Yeah I'm in. I think he could be serviceable for a few games in an emergency. As long as we get him cheap. Which is still way more than I'll make in my lifetime.
        Can we sign this guy?

I would be in too. Another point about offensive line injuries, the surest way to get a guy hurt is to line him up next to a bad player. He ends up trying to extend and help the lesser player. It may not be a coincidence that both our tackles and our center have a hard time starting next to two bad guards.

That's how we long Albert to the ACL... playing a shatty OLman next to him. Pretty stoked about having a left side of Albert, Tunsil, and Pouncey.
