  • We still have a lot of ?

Overall I was disappointed in this draft. So lets break down each position and see where we stand.

QB - Its basically the same with RT and MM and we drafted a developmental QB in Doughty.

RB - We have Ajayi as the starter and Drake as a complementary back. Ajajyi's knees are a concern and so is Drake's lengthy list of injuries. If Ajajyi gets injured we are in trouble because Drake is not a feature back. Thats why i would have preferred us drafting Procise, Dixon or Collins. We should look to add another RB who can start if needed. Williams is a 3rd down back.

WR - Again this is the strength of the team with Parker Landry Stills and now we added Caroo. So we are in good shape there.

OT - I think we are keeping Albert at LT and we have James at RT. We did improve our depth in dumping Fox and adding Young and Bushrod.

OG/C - Tunsil looks like he is going to start off at LG which should be a major improvement over Thomas. That leaves Turner Urbik and Douglas to compete for the RG job. Pouncey is the center and either Douglas or McClendon would be his primary backup.

DE - It looks like Wake and Williams are going to be the starters. I was hoping to add a DE in the draft but it didn't happen. Branch Fede Moore and McCain will all be part of the rotation.

DT - Nothing has changed, it looks like Suh and either Mitchell or Phillips will start and we go with that three man rotation.

LB - It looks like Jenkins Alonso and Misi are going to be the starters. I am very disappointed that we did not draft a LB. Kentrell Brothers was there for the taking in the 5th round but we decided we would rather have a bunch of 6th and 7th round picks. He would have at least provided us with some depth and more options since Alonso could have been moved outside and Misi can play inside in a pinch. Now we better hope we don't have any injuries because once again we don't have any quality depth. Neville showed some flashes last year but he plays outside and our biggest problem last year was stopping the run and we don't have a thumper in the middle of our defense. Brothers would have filled that role. So I am still worried about this unit.

DB - It looks like Maxwell will be one starter and Howard will be the other starter. I am a little nervous with Howard being penciled in as a starter as a rookie but we don't have any other options unless we sign Leon Hall which I believe we should. I don't understand why we dumped Taylor for virtually nothing, a trade up in the 7th round and to add insult to injury the Browns drafted Scooby Wright with the pick we gave them. I know he has been disappointing but he was a former 2nd round pick after all and what do we have to lose by giving him another chance especially since we don't have any depth. It then looks like McCain Lippett and the former Ducks DB who's name I forget is all we have as depth. We better sign Leon Hall or our secondary could be a potential disaster.

S - Jones and Abdul-Huss the free agent we brought over from the Lions should be the starters. We drafted a safety Lucas I believe from Penn State and we have Thomas and Aikens as depth. I think our starters should be fine but the depth is shaky.

Good breakdown...I as well was pretty disappointed in the draft (Hugely disappointed with how we kept giving away picks, yet couldn't get shit if we moved back!)

Not sure why we wasted a pick on Doughty, maybe to give the illusion that we're drafting a guy to push Tannehill..Seems like JAG, a guy who'll make the PS & then in a year or two will be released never to be heard from again.

I agree with your assessment of our RB situation, i've kind of been wondering if we're gonna revisit possibly signing Arian Foster..If not, then i think at some point we'll be screwed b/c i fear Ajayi will end up hurt and as you said, Drake isn't the answer as a full-time back..Maybe we should give Tennessee a call & see if David Cobb is available since they just drafted Henry!

I'm anxious to see what the O-Line can do with the addition of Tunsil, i believe if they can all stay healthy it'll be a pretty solid line (Big IF i know) I'm still holding out hope that Turner will pan out.

I hate like hell that we didn't really address the LB position, i know we picked up Alonso in the trade, but right now he's still iffy and even if he returns to form we still have bum-ass Misi in the middle..This guys like a bad rash, just can't get rid of him...

I'm still seeing the rumor that we might sign Leon Hall, that would help out a lot...

IMO, Doughty was a highly productive local kid. It was a feel good pick up for the local fanbase who have been rooting for him. Minny did the same thing with the German kid at WR. That said, Doughty will be Keilbail or PsycheFuge's favorite player now. lol...

Anything that sends Dallas Thomas to the bench is a good thing.

RB and LB are my main concerns.

Just like MANY fans I thought the priority in this draft should have been focused on the defensive side of the ball.

We all knew that we are STUCK with Tannehill for at least one more season. He has one of the best receiving groups in the league. What he has needed to help him turn that corner, if that is ever going to happen, is a better offensive line.if this group can stay healthy it should be the best o-line he ever played behind. They didn't sign or draft a true guard, which in my opinion is a mistake, but this is still the best line he has played with since entering the league. Bottom line -NO MORE EXCUSES!

We all wanted the team do something different. Why? Well, it's because in our minds it would have produced faster results. This front office is building for the future, not this season. They are not planning on making the playoffs or Super Bowl run. They are building the future Dolphins team.

I am not going to waste my time watching every single game this season. Why bother? The front office didn't do anything to make me believe they plan to win now. So why would I take time away from my family and waste it on a team that is going to win about 4-7 games?

QB - Same - Weak - Same quarterback and backup QB.

RB - Weak - Two injury prone RB's don't make a whole, they make a hole

WR - Strong -but it already was strong.

    OL - Improved

DL - Improved - Williams is WAY better than OV. If Wake stays healthy the D-Line will be the key to the defense.

LB - Same - Weak - If Alonso can stay healthy that "might" change.

CB - Same - Strong on one side, weak on the other

    S - Improved

Overall the team "should" play better since it has improved in certain areas and there should be better coaches all around. However, they have a much stronger schedule then they did last season so I expect a similar record IF Tannehill improves. If Tannehill still can't improve with new coaches, the best receiving group in the league and the best o-line he has seen, then this team will quit on Tannehill just like they quit on the coaching staff last season.

This season falls on the shoulders of Tannehill. The team was designed specifically for him and this IS his make or break season. If he turns the corner, awesome! If he doesn't the locker room will be divided and it will be back to the drawing board about finding a new quarterback, again.

Let's compare, Look at the Rams, Titans, Jags, Raiders and the Bucs..... They have all improved in less time then the Dolphins so if any of these 5 teams exceed the Dolphins this season we will all know that the formula the Dolphins are trying to execute is falling short... I'm a die hard Dolphins fan but their frame of mind around building a winner has always been questionable and this off season seems to be more of the same.... Hoping we turn the corner just like these 5 other teams are doing...... They added some flavor but will it taste the same........

Three of the four found their franchise quarterback. It remains be seen if the Rams did or not. Fisher has been building a good team since going to the Rams. It's not rocket science. Build a solid defense, get some strong lines on both sides of the ball and the hardest part of all is finding a QB. The Dolphins have been searching for their franchise QB since Marino retired and in my opinion after this season the search will continue.

Remember, they've never heard of the Guard position, so this can't really be held against them!

Problem is, is that they're ALL closet Jets fans (At least Ross & Tannenbaum are)...So, we can easily understand why they're saying what a great draft this was for the Jets...uh, i mean, Dolphins....

Good post and I agree with most of it. RB and short yardage is a legit concern, especially if Ajayi goes down and we're stuck watching Daniel Thomas struggle for 3 yards a carry. Hoping we bring in some more RBs after cuts this summer.

At LB, the kids, Hewitt, Vigil, and Hull will get some opportunities alongside Misi, Alonso, and Jenkins. I won't be surprised if we bring in someone after camp cuts or make a trade before the season starts.

I feel good about our DBs. It was our biggest weakness on defense last season and between Maxwell, Howard, Lucas, IAQ, and the 2nd year guys, I think we'll be much better, especially with the change to press and the DBs facing the QB this season.

I wasn't as high on Brothers as many. He made a lot of tackles in college and he seems to have good instinct but he lacks in athleticism. I see him struggling to get off blocks in the NFL, and he will be a liability in pass coverage. He's a good in the box thumper, but IMO he's only a 1-2 down player.

Isn't that 1-2 downs more than most of our draft class is gonna be on the field?
