  • Drake and Carroo

A lot of people are down on this pick, and I would have liked to seen him in the 4th or 5th but this was a pick the staff clearly thought they needed to do what they want to do on offense. Gase loves backs that catch the ball out of the backfield and by taking Drake they got the best one in the draft. I doubt he will be a 20-25 touch guy in the NFL, but honestly there aren't many of those anymore. Most teams use a running back by committee and my guess that is what Miami will do as well.

I compare Drake to Reggie Bush with the exception that he doesn't go down with the first contact. He will be a mismatch nightmare as they can send him in motion out wide and he becomes another receiver.

Many of the talking heads seem to think Carroo has first round talent. The problem with him was he had a bad QB and he had the off the field issue. If you look at the surface of the issue it seems horrible, but if you really want to look at it with an open mind its not near as bad as it seems and all charges were dismissed.

The guy had 2 drops in his entire career and 29 TD's with 122 receptions. That's a TD for every 4.2 times he touches the ball and averaged 19.5 yards per rception. Let that sink in for a minute.

I know highlight film isn't a career, but if you don't like what you see in these kids I am not sure what to tell ya...

I don't have anything against drake, he can only try. Now Caroo, talent from the neck down yes. But this sounds like charges dropped cause I'm going to be a star. I just don't want any headlines of this dude battering a woman, and the FO going we didn't know. He's ours now all we can do is hope this doesn't happen.

Just stop with the Carroo bashing already. That BS was all drama between his ex-girlfriend and current gf. The ex gf lied and was the charges investigated and dismissed. None of it has anything to do with why he was drafted.

If we didn't trade down for Howard in the 2nd round and we maintained our 4th round pick then I would have had no problem with us drafting a WR in the 3rd round if they believed that WR was going to be a stud. Then we could have taken Ken Dixon with our 4th round pick who is a much better prospect than Drake is. So if we were a little more patient we could have still had Caroo and then Dixon while maintaining our 3rd and 4th round picks next year. Then we should have taken Brothers with our 5th round pick instead of doing all that trading down yesterday. So we could have had this.

R3. WR Caroo - If we really believe in him although I think Braxton Miller is a better prospect who we could have had.

R4. RB Ken Dixon - Many thought he could have been taken in the 2nd round.

R5. LB Kentrell Brothers - A steal in the 5th round.

Agree...While i like Drake his injury history scares the hell outta me! I'm more pissed at the throwing away of picks (especially next years) to move up, than the actual guys we ended up with (Though i gotta admit, i don't think i ever heard of a couple of 'em)

This draft and all of the moving around & giving away picks seems like one that would've been done by a solid team that has the luxury of taking those kind of chances, not a dumpster fire like the Miami Dolphins...But hell, what do i know?!

Exactly... they could have taken Carroo in the 3nd and still have taken Drake in the 4rd and retained their mid round picks.

I was puzzled by the WRs, but this helps ensure we can keep ticking if someone goes down to injury and gives us ton of versatility. I like what Carroo brings to the WR corp. He can play any of the positions at a high level and is better than Stills on the outside. If you watch his film, you see OPEN constantly. He's really good at creating separation, but also tracks the ball well and catches with his hands in traffic. He shows good sideline awareness and is a YAC monster. The pats were reportedly geared up to take him, which is why we traded back up to snag him in the 3rd. I'm really excited to see what Parker, Landry, Carroo, and Stills will bring to the table this season.

Carroo seems to have all the tangibles but Cuch, those films are Rutger ball which with college DB's is about 5 times slower than the NFL... Plus, Can RT throw it accurate enough down field to where Carroo is affective.... Fingers crossed..... If Drake's stays healthy he should be exciting to watch... looking forward to it....

Rutgers is a favorite drafting target of the Pats. They have 5 or 6 guys on their roster from Rutgers right now. Carroo also had 3 catches against Ohio State for 55 yards and almost 19 yards a catch. He can ball. I don't have any concerns about Tannehill. When protected, he's produced. Most of the issues have been with his surrounding cast IMO, which is why the team went out and got him playmakers and the best OLman in the draft. We'll see this season how it plays out. ;-)

Confused about Drake's real 40 time... I read initially on the CBSSports site that he ran a 4.5 and was the 9th best RB available. Walter Football had him as the 6th best with a 4.45. His pro-day results were listed as 4.41 in the 40, tops among the Big school RBs.

Latest on RB Kenyan Drake including news, stats, videos, highlights and more on NFL.com

NFL Combine results has him listed as the Top performer among RBs in the 40 (4.45), the Broad Jump (123''), and the 20 yard shuttle (4.21). Sounds nice anyway.

        From Walter:

        Kenyan Drake, RB, Alabama
        Height: 6-0. Weight: 210. Arm: 30.75. Hand 8.75.
        40 Time: 4.45.
        Projected Round (2016): 2-4.

4/26/16: Drake has had a late rise leading up to the 2016 NFL Draft,, and part of that is because he is a workout warrior. Teams really like him, and if it weren't for his propensity to get injured, Drake could go in the top-60.

Drake was impressive in his return to the field in 2015, showing real speed to threaten a defense. At most schools, Drake would have been the starter, but at Alabama, he was stuck as the No. 2 behind Derrick Henry. Still, Drake averaged 5.4 yards per carry for 407 yards (76 attempts) with one touchdown. He also notched 27 receptions for 255 yards and a touchdown.

Drake ran well at the Senior Bowl and showed off his excellent quickness with size and strength. The big issue for him is durability, and his time at the Senior Bowl couldn't disprove that. Drake was expected to run fast at the combine, where he ended up with a very impressive 40 time. He was once again dealing with some injuries at his pro day.

8/8/15: If Drake were at most colleges, he would be a starter, but at Alabama, he's a backup. Drake totaled 22 carries for 112 yards and four touchdowns in 2014. He also made four receptions for 149 yards and two scores. His season ended with a gruesome dislocated ankle injury that required surgery. In 2013, Drake averaged 7.5 yards per carry for 694 yards and eight touchdowns. He also caught 12 passes for 135 yards.

He does sound more like Reggie Bush the more I look into him, but it's from a non-game/workout and an injury standpoint...

Really hope I'm wrong on Drake...

Lets hope he got all of his injuries out of the way in college.

Indeed.... given we only have Williams, and Jack Shat behind him, we're going to need him to stay healthy. Hoping we poach some other teams PS squad or find a guy when cuts come out.

Those were some impressive highlight reels for Drake and Caroo. If the o-line plays better which they should we could have a potent offense with all the playmakers we have. I am starting to warm up to some of our draft picks. My only big complaint is that we didn't stay put in the 5th round and draft Kentrell Brothers. If we did that I would feel much better about our draft.

Yes, couldn't believe Brothers fell that low and we didn't make a move on him. Would've rather taken Brothers than Doughty by country mile.

Maybe we'll find a MLB yet after cuts happen.
