  • Reshad Jones, not attending 'Voluntary' Workouts...

...unhappy with the contract he just signed in '14...Man, what is it with these *******s, don't get me wrong RJ is one of my favorite Fins but he's making over 7 million base salary putting him among the top 10 paid safeties in the league AND i ASSUME he was more than happy with those #'s just two years ago! Fact of the matter is he's a damn good player on a super-shitty team; i wish he'd be spending more time trying to do everything he can do to make this team a winner rather than bitching & moaning that he wants to be paid..

Funny that these whining malcontents never offer to give any $$ back when they have sub-par to shitty years..Makes me freakin' sick!!!

As Cheech would say, you got a point there, but if you part your hair just right, no one will notice...j/k, actually you do have a point..I have zero problem with these guys getting every penny they can, but my complaint is he just signed that fat contract two years ago..It's freakin' ridiculous!

He already spent his money and he's broke... CTE causes uncontrollable spending spree's ....

He's got no business bitching this season. He has yet to make a Pro-bowl on his own merit as a starter and not a replacement.

Jones signed that contract back in 2013, then was suspended the first 4 games of the 2014 season for PEDs. He blamed his trainer for that.

I think this stems from him becoming the first safety in NFL history to record 125 tackles and 5 interceptions. Odd that that's never been done before. Shows how bad our LBs and DBs were. My lingering memory of him from last season was him fumbling away an INT last year by not securing the ball and being a dumbass with it on a return and giving it back.

He needs to play out his contract this season, then re-negotiate next year after he puts together another solid season.

I'm not sure how much he wants a year but we should seriously consider extending him now. He has clearly been our best defensive player and makes game changing plays. If we're talking two more million a year, do it. He's earned it. If he starts up again after that then I say move on.

It's a year early for this from him. Especially given how bad the defense was last year. End of this season or next spring, sure, no problem. It's not like he gave anything back when he was suspended 4 games for PEDs in 2014 after signing his fat contract.

He's been the best, most consistent player in the Dolphins for years. How many great players wait until their minimum wage contract is up before wanting to work out a new deal when they are playing at a high level? When a player signs a rookie deal for a few years and that player does not perform well do teams honor that contract and keep paying that player? No, they usually break the contract and cut the player. So when you have a player as good as Jones playing as well as he is I think they should pay him. JMO

                Minimum wage contract?

Jones isn't on his rookie contract or playing for the vet minimum. He signed a 4 year, $30M contract extension a couple seasons ago. He was the highest paid Safety in the NFL at that time. I don't mind extending him and would like to lock him up long term, but he's not playing for chicken feed here.

I also don't like his timing of this with the new coaches coming in. We'll see how it plays out...

I am fully aware of what Jones is making. I was referring to the double standard in the league. A players signs a four year deal for X amount of money. If that player plays at a Pro Bowl level the team doesn't approach that player and pay him what he deserves, they try and keep paying him peanuts for as long as they can. If the player doesn't play well the team has no qualms of cutting a player and breaking a contract. Double standard. In the real world employers want at least a two week notice if you plan to quit, but there is no warning if they plan to fire you. Double standard.

The timing is not good and I agree with that. Is Jones trying to play hardball to try and force a trade so he can chase a ring? No idea. I think they should figure this out quick though because IF Jones doesn't want to play for the Dolphins they could trade him and get an EARLY 2nd round pick for him. Not that I wNt that to happen.

I'm sure Jones and the team have been having discussions on an extension for a while. He's a vital cog in the machine. I suspect this is a ploy simply to stay out of camps until the mandatory stuff starts and to put the team on notice that his extension needs to be addressed.

I'd hate to trade him away for a 2nd. Now Wake... I'd definitely trade him and draft Ogbah, Dodd, or Spence.
