  • What do you do?

You are the Dolphins GM and when it gets to the 13th overall pick and RB Elliot, DB Hargreaves, and DL Shaq Lawson are there.
    Who do you take?

    PS
Before everyone gets too serious and starts telling me they WON'T be there, and what about this LB etc. etc. Just have fun with it. Of those three who would you take?

I would have to take hargraves. I know he isn't a perfect fit for our new system but he is a talent athlete. He will be a probowler

I would take Lawson. Don't think Hargraves fits our system and I will be pissed if we waste our 1st round pick on a RB.

      Shaq Lawson hands down.

I'm hoping like Hell that Lawson drops to us. He is a physical pass rusher with outstanding lateral range and quickness.

Lawson was completely Dominant when healthy and a beast at attacking the pocket. He led the nation with 24 stops behind the line of scrimmage in 2015 and finished his college career as 8th sacks and 7th with 46.5 TFLS for Clemson's history.

He had 10.5 sacks before his knee injury limited him and took away his explosion at the end of the season. He had 79 tackles (59 solos) and limited ball carriers to minus 80 yards on 53 running plays directed at him.

Great body frame and speed for a player his size with a 4.67 40, and playes with leverage the same way Cam Wake does. He also has excellent hand fighting skills and keeps his hands inside to keep tackles and guards from getting into his pads. Shows fantastic closing speed as well when bearing down on QBs.

He's under rated at the POA and a solid tackler. Much better than Cam Wake. He can run down ball carriers in the backfield and is the 2nd all time Clemson defender to record double-digit TFLs in three straight seasons. Runners average minus 0.80 yards on 90 carries in his area and didn't record a single 1st down or TD running the ball at him during his freshman and sophomore seasons.

Would love to draft him at #13.

To me it's between Lawson and Elliot with Elliot the winner. He can be Eddie George in the backfield helping out 2 positions at once. QB it helps out as he won't be counted on to lead O entirely. He has proven so far he can't do that. Ajay as our lead back, bone on bone knee, no thanks.

I stay true to MY board. On my board my top three players are Ramsey, Hargreaves and Lawson. Now, staying true to my board I also look at fit and do not think Hargreaves is a fit for Miami's D. In this case I would go Lawson

Another reason we should draft defense, and Lawson in particular, is that we've only drafted 2 defensive players in the first 4 rounds the past two drafts. Those 2 players were 2nd rounder Jordan Phillips and 4th rounder Walt Aikens. The last time we drafted a solid starting defender was back in 2012 with 4th rounder, OV.

Before that, we haven't drafted for Defense since 2010, when we took Odrick #1, Misi #2, and Jones #163 in the 5th round. All others have been FAs or lower round guys, who've mostly been camp bodies or slow to develop.

We need to start drafting defense early and that should start with Shaq Lawson, Deforrest Buckner, or Robert Nkemdiche.

IMO, Elliott shouldn't even be in the conversation.

              YMMV.

Lol... probably won't go that far, but yeah, I won't be ecstatic by a damned sight.

              I could live with
              1) DE
              2) CB
              3) G
              4) RB

I think I would take Lawson since I worry that Hargreaves might not be a fit for our scheme. I still think we can get Burns or Fuller in the 2nd round. Lawson will help both our pass rush and our run defense.

Yes, also we have plenty of youth at DB now and should take a CB in the 2nd. Burns, Fuller, or Howard are all fits I think.

At DE, Wake and Williams are close to being done. We need younger studs to replace them.

I am not so high on Howard. He ran a very slow 40 time at the combine a 4.60 I believe which is very slow for a corner. I would be happy with Burns or Fuller. I worry there will be a run on comers in the latter portion of the first round since so many teams need corners there.

                        It's a win-win situation.

Shaq Lawson and Elliott would be great draft picks. I have been on the Lawson bandwagon for months so it would be hard for me to not have him as my first choice. If they draft Elliott it would make sense and I would understand the pick.

There is one issue with drafting Lawson at #13. There is a good chance he wouldn't start. I think he would see significant minutes, but chances are he isn't even a starter on this D Line.

I am leaning towards trading back, or drafting Ragland and be done with it. If you draft Ragland he is the instant starter at MLB, Alonza moves to WOLB and Misi/Jenkins battle it out for SOLB. That gives the LB's a lot of movement and options on the outside and keeps Ragland as the run stuffer in the middle.

I like Ragland. I think he will be a very solid pro. The knock is on his pass coverage, but you have Alonso and Misi/Jenkins that can cover. Ragland is a run stopper, and IMO that is the area we need to true up. Teams have to know they're going to have a hard time running the ball against us, and the addition of Williams and Regland to that group will go a long way in making that happen.
