  • McShay's 3 Rd. Mock Draft had Miami Doing This

Round 1 (13): Shaq Lawson, DE, Clemson
Round 2 (42): Kendall Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech
Round 3 (73): Kenneth Dixon, RB, Louisiana Tech
Analysis: Mario Williams (31) and Cameron Wake (34) are both getting up there in age, so the Dolphins need to find a way to infuse some youth along their D-line in this draft. The more I watch Lawson, the more I love his game. It wasn't a fluke that he led the nation with 25.5 tackles for loss; he plays with a combination of quickness, power, technique and relentlessness that is hard to stifle. Fuller and Dixon would both fill two of the Dolphins' bigger needs entering the draft.

"Kiper has 4 mock drafts out. I think no way Heargraves goes that high, and no way Fins go DE. They just signed Williams. They go DBm LB or RB. Maybe OL if someone falls they really like." - Finatic

McShay seems to agree with me and my response to your post above was almost exactly what I said to you. The Dolphins can't go into the year with their two starting DE's are in their 30's.

I actually like Ogbah a little better than Lawson. What if we traded down in the first round and picked up an additional 3rd round pick? Then do this.

      R1. DE Emmanuel Ogbah

R2. DB Artie Burns or DB Kendall Fuller

      R3. OG Christian Westerman

      R3. LB Joshua Perry

      R4. RB CJ Procise

I'd have no problems taking Lawson in the 1st as long as he is the BPA at #13. If we could score Lawson and say a Burns, Fuller, or Howard in the 2nd, along with the guys like what Sean has posted, or even a Ken Dixon, it would be a pretty good draft.

I just do not want to be reaching for needs at DB, LB, or OG like we've done in the past.

The only guy that I think might be on the board at #13 who I would take over Lawson is Hargreaves, and the more I read about him the more I like the bigger corners, Mac, Apple, and Jackson better. With our aging DE's I don't see how you pass on Lawson unless there is someone who has a monumental drop like Jack or Buckner. I think a 2nd round CB (or even trading back into the first round for one of the 3 mentioned above) would be okay. To me Lawson is that high energy motor guy that will end up being a pro bowler for years to come. Not sure if there is a guy like that at 42 we could get.

I'm starting to be ok with a 3rd round Guard. I know all our Guarda are 3rd rounders and have been misses so far but the trend has to end sometime.

I can see Lawson for his ability to shut down the run completely while still being a dominant pass rusher, unlike Vernon, who was one or the other. He also has the ability to move inside on passing downs and rush the QB from between Wake and Suh. Gase has described the kind of blocking up front that fits what J Douglas does best. I also think Billy Turner is going to prosper from our change from OL retardation. I expect a huge improvement up front. Fuller would be a solid 2nd round choice. I'd rather get Zach Thomas, I mean Scooby Wright, in the 3rd than a RB. Prosise in round 4 sounds good. I wish we would sign FA CB Leon Hall so we could go into the draft less desperate to land a Corner.

I don't mind this draft at all. I am a huge fan of Lawson, as I have seen him take over games. He may not be the best pass rusher in the draft, but IMO he's the best DE in the draft. He can get to the QB, but he sets the edge better than anyone in this draft. A healthy Kendall Fuller is the best pure CB in the draft and second best DB in the draft, so to get him in round two would be a steal if healthy. I personally think if he checks out he will go late round one.

If you believe Mando then Miami likes Kevin Dodd a lot along with BJ Goodson (late pick) out of Clemson.
