  • Trade down with Redskins Texans or Vikings

As usual the Dolphins are selecting in an awkward portion of the first round. Just missing out on a potential elite talent and no matter who we choose at #13 it probably won't be considered a good value pick so maybe we could entice one of those 3 teams to trade up with us. We should get their 2nd round pick in exchange but I don't think they will make the trade if we insist in them giving up their 2nd round pick so I would make the trade more desirable for them by just asking for a 3rd round pick in 2016 and another 3rd round pick in 2017. So we would then have either the 21st 22nd or 23rd pick in the first round. Then I would do this.

R1. DB William Jackson - I am starting to like him even more than Eli Apple. I think he can do everything Apple can do but he has much better ball skills. The knock on him was the level of competition he went up against but he had a dominant bowl game against FSU. He had the most pass breakups and passes defensed in the nation and 5 picks with 2 returned for TD's. He was also the most impressive corner at the combine. I think he should still be available in the low 20s and taking him there sounds about where he should be taken.

R2. DT Kenny Clark - I know this won't be a popular pick but I am unimpressed with Mitchell and Phillips. We saw what happened last year when Suh had no help in the middle of the defensive line. Imagine adding a talent like Clark next to Suh. Our defense would be a nightmare for our opponents. Clark can both stuff the run and put pressure on the QB. My first choice here would be Cody Whitehair but I will assume that he will already be gone. I don't think Garnett is worthy of this high of a pick nor is any LB that would be available here so I will go with an out of the box selection.

R3. RB CJ Procise - I think he will be a very good weapon for our offense. He can catch the ball and he averaged 6.6 YPC last year for Notre Dame. He should form a formidable duo with Ajayi.

R3. OG Christian Westerman - He is generally considered to be the 3rd best OG in the draft and he should be available here. Its even possible that Garnett will be available and if he is then I would choose him but if he isn't then Westerman will be the pick. I believe he should be able to start right away.

R4. LB Blake Martinez - Instinctual MLB who will at least provide some depth there and he might challenge for a starting job if we believe Alonso is better suited to play outside. At the combine he tested very similar to Reggie Ragland.

R5. DE/OLB Stephen Weatherly - He is similar to Dion Jordan in size and athleticism. 6'4 267 and he ran a 4.61 at the combine. He could either bulk up some and be a DE or lose a little weight and be a SAM OLB.

R6. FS Deon Bush - Some secondary depth.

R7. WR Mike Thomas - Some competition at WR.

R7. OG Parker Ehinger - More o-line competition.

Cuch and Bahamas rubbing off on me. If we trade down and Alexander and Jackson is there then I'd take Alexander. I know he is short but if we could have a young Grimes/Surtain then I'm in. Love Alexander's attitude and aggresiveness. Plus coming out of High school he was already a 5 star recruit.

I like Jackson a lot and think if they traded back he would be a great draft pick.

IF Whitehair is off the board in the 2nd round I would prefer that the Dolphins drafted Robert Nkemdiche if they were to go DL. I think his character concerns will have him drop a little and if he is there I can't see Tannebaum being afraid to draft him. Jaylon Smith could be a nice, future pick up as well. If they went in a different direction Emmanuel Ogbah would be a great draft pick here in the 2nd round, in my opinion. If Henry is there they have to pull the trigger though.

If Connor Cook falls to the 3rd round, which some mock actually having him do, I think the Miami Dolphins will regret not drafting him for many years to come. Yep, I said it..............

Kentrell Brothers in the 3rd round would be nice. There should be some quality guards in this round and I wouldn't mind if they doubled-up on them since they need GUARDS, not tackles forced to play out of position. Vadal Alexander, Westerman, Landon Turner, Joshua Garnett, etc.

Proise might be available in the 4th round and would be a nice draft pick here. Scooby Wright might be a good pick. I wouldn't put the season on the line for a MLB who is coming off a season ending injury. I would be looking at 1-2 LB's in this draft.

I agree with you about the 2nd round pick. It all depends on who is available to us. Whitehair obviously would be my first choice there and if we acquired an extra draft pick by trading down in the first round I would consider trading up in the 2nd round for Whitehair. I think we just need to get ahead of the 49ers who I believe would draft him so that would cost us our 4th or 5th round pick but I think it would be worth it. I also like Ogbah Henry and Nkemdiche but I would not trade up for them.

I would consider taking Cook in the 3rd round if we acquire an extra draft pick by trading down earlier in the draft. I think we can get a quality OG in the 3rd round like Garnett or Westerman. Brothers would be a good choice also in the 3rd round.

I sure hope Procise would be available to us in the 4th round. Scooby Wright would also be a good choice in the 4th. If not then we could take a RB later. Keith Marshall might be a good option in the 6th round.

Let's stop the idea of trading down my friends...

We want a starter...a prime time legit starter at 13....

I am with you Bahamas, We arent good enough to think we can outsmart anyone by trading down for a 3rd and picking up a gamer. We cant even get the guys we draft to be good consistently. Stay where we are and get the BPA!

If you're good at your job you should be able to draft a day one starter anywhere in the first round. The Dolphins already made a mistake by trading out of the top 10 because that is where the elite talent should be, so I don't see there being a big drop off in talent by trading back from #13 to the late teens early 20's. Here is what I would do if I could. Trade down with one of those teams to #21 #22 or #23. We would also get their 3rd round pick this year and next year. Then in the 2nd round I would trade up with the Ravens to #36. That would cost us our 5th round pick. I believe the 49ers would draft Cody Whitehair at #37 thats why I would try to jump ahead of them.

                R1. DB William Jackson

                R2. OG Cody Whitehair

                R3. LB Joshua Perry

                R3. DE Charles Tapper

R4. RB CJ Procise - If he is unavailable then I would take RB Paul Perkins

                R6. FS Deon Bush

                R7. WR Mike Thomas

                R7. OG Parker Ehinger

Eli Apple might actually be a better fit for our new press scheme than William Jackson after reading up more on both of them so I would still be happy taking Apple especially if we could trade down into the low 20s.

I think both Apple and Jackson will eventually be solid pros. Jackson seems to have more of a nose for the ball and is a better tackler, but the rub on him is he played lesser competition. I like the film on both guys. To me Jackson at 13 is more of a stretch than Apple. But if Mac is there he may just be the pick. The fact that there is no talk of him visiting or rumblings of the phins liking him makes me think he is their target.
