As usual the Dolphins are selecting in an awkward portion of the first round. Just missing out on a potential elite talent and no matter who we choose at #13 it probably won't be considered a good value pick so maybe we could entice one of those 3 teams to trade up with us. We should get their 2nd round pick in exchange but I don't think they will make the trade if we insist in them giving up their 2nd round pick so I would make the trade more desirable for them by just asking for a 3rd round pick in 2016 and another 3rd round pick in 2017. So we would then have either the 21st 22nd or 23rd pick in the first round. Then I would do this.
R1. DB William Jackson - I am starting to like him even more than Eli Apple. I think he can do everything Apple can do but he has much better ball skills. The knock on him was the level of competition he went up against but he had a dominant bowl game against FSU. He had the most pass breakups and passes defensed in the nation and 5 picks with 2 returned for TD's. He was also the most impressive corner at the combine. I think he should still be available in the low 20s and taking him there sounds about where he should be taken.
R2. DT Kenny Clark - I know this won't be a popular pick but I am unimpressed with Mitchell and Phillips. We saw what happened last year when Suh had no help in the middle of the defensive line. Imagine adding a talent like Clark next to Suh. Our defense would be a nightmare for our opponents. Clark can both stuff the run and put pressure on the QB. My first choice here would be Cody Whitehair but I will assume that he will already be gone. I don't think Garnett is worthy of this high of a pick nor is any LB that would be available here so I will go with an out of the box selection.
R3. RB CJ Procise - I think he will be a very good weapon for our offense. He can catch the ball and he averaged 6.6 YPC last year for Notre Dame. He should form a formidable duo with Ajayi.
R3. OG Christian Westerman - He is generally considered to be the 3rd best OG in the draft and he should be available here. Its even possible that Garnett will be available and if he is then I would choose him but if he isn't then Westerman will be the pick. I believe he should be able to start right away.
R4. LB Blake Martinez - Instinctual MLB who will at least provide some depth there and he might challenge for a starting job if we believe Alonso is better suited to play outside. At the combine he tested very similar to Reggie Ragland.
R5. DE/OLB Stephen Weatherly - He is similar to Dion Jordan in size and athleticism. 6'4 267 and he ran a 4.61 at the combine. He could either bulk up some and be a DE or lose a little weight and be a SAM OLB.
R6. FS Deon Bush - Some secondary depth.
R7. WR Mike Thomas - Some competition at WR.
R7. OG Parker Ehinger - More o-line competition.
