Cornerback Ifo Ekpre-Olomu will try to make his first on-field appearance in the NFL with the Dolphins.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Ekpre-Olomu has been claimed off of waivers by Miami. Ekpre-Olomu missed his entire rookie season after tearing his ACL in December 2014 and the Browns, who drafted him in the seventh round, decided to move on without him over the weekend.

Ekpre-Olomu is working out and a league source told PFT that his knee feels fine, although the Browns were concerned about his ability to hold up for an entire season after a recent MRI of his knee. The Dolphins’ medical team may feel differently about those chances or they may just be willing to take a flier on a player with a low salary that was projected to go much earlier in the draft before his injury.

That bet may not pay off, but it won’t hurt

Nice pick-up... guy was a 2nd round prior to the injury. If he's healthy, this is a solid signing. Also, doesn't hurt our draft comps next year. Short guy at 5-9, but solidly built. I like this move.

"Compares to: Brent Grimes, Miami Dolphins - Good things come in small packages, at least that's the case with cornerbacks like Grimes and Ekpre-Olomu who both lack ideal height and frame for the position, but they make up for their physical shortcomings with quick reflexes, natural instincts and ballskills."

If he is healthy the Dolphins might have cut a player that was costing the Dolphins a fortune to have on the roster, is 10 YEARS OLDER and had a headache/locker room disaster of a wife. If he stays healthy this might be the steal of free agency.

Things will be interesting with the draft now. I know he won't change the strategy but maybe they may feel more comfortable with a 2nd round DB if they are not blown away with a CB in the first.

I don't watch much college and don't have much insight on the players coming out or the draft. I just like to read what everyone else thinks. Besides..... It better to be thought a fool then to open ones mouth and remove all doubt🙃

Great. You're saying he'll show up to practice late and drunk, then our mouthiest receiver will pick a fight with him and throw a ball at him. Amiright?

JK... hoping he is even as 80% naturally gifted as VD... just a whole lot smarter.

LOL... in Charlotte this week. Had a few Duck Rabbit Milk Stouts with the 'cue last night at Mac's Speed Shop. As soon as I read Bahama's post about VD, that was the first thing that crossed my mind. ;-)

I'll never forget that 'eyes glassed over, dazed & confused' look when Ireland gave him the news,, man, i almost felt sorry for the guy...In a nutshell i think we all saw firsthand a kid who felt entitled & thought he could get away with anything he wanted without any repercussions and sadly finding out the hard way that life (even NFL life) doesn't work like that! Same shit's currnetly happening to Johnny Doucheball; at least Vontae woke up, which is more than can be said for Doucheball...The unfortunate part as Fins fans about all of this is another team is reaping the benefits of VD's hard lesson...

I like the move by signing him but by no means does this "solve" our need for a starting corner opposite Byron Maxwell. I think the best case scenario is that Ekpre-Olomu has recovered from his injury and he makes the 53 man roster and eventually develops into a quality nickel slot corner competing with Bobby McCain for that role.

Agree on all accounts. You can never have enough quality DBs. I'm still high on Bobby Mac too. Excited for him to be in his 2nd season and with a better DC in Joseph - hopefully.

Agreed. But this is a no-lose proposition; there's no harm in bringing him in for a look, a thorough going-over by our 'competent' medical staff & going from there..Had he been healthy he was pegged to be a 2nd rounder (some had him graded higher) & he was a serious ball-hawk, hopefully he's close to healthy again and he'll provide us some serious help in the slot...
