  • Sports Buzz: Eagles Trade, LBs, RBs

    http://miamiherald.typepad.com/sport...all-notes.html

“It's not like we started off by offering [Byron Maxwell and Kiko Alonso and the 13th pick for the 8th pick],” Roseman told me.

"[Dolphins executive Mike Tannenbaum] is a tough negotiator. He needed to get value for that.

“I think that narrative of [Maxwell] not playing well isn’t accurate. He did play well. You're talking about him being a solid starting corner. It's so hard to find guys with that kind of length. He's a starter on two Super Bowl teams. He’s a good player.

"Kiko Alonso, you talk about explosiveness. The first game of the season, he made an interception that few people on Earth can make. He's got unbelievable physical talent, unbelievable upside. Don’t forget: Kiko was Defensive Rookie of the Year [in 2013].

“This was a situation where we gave up a lot. We gave up two starters but that's the cost of doing business to get into the top 10.”

But also keep in mind that if the Eagles thought either player would be a star, they very likely wouldn't have given them up.

    • One Dolphins official cautioned not to overlook Neville Hewitt in the team’s linebacker assessment; Miami is high on him. And there's also still eagerness to see more of Zach Vigil.

    • Though the Dolphins plans to add a running back to share the load with Jay Ajayi, Adam Gase likes Damien Williams. The No. 3 job will be his to lose against Isaiah Pead, Daniel Thomas and others.

Superagent Drew Rosenhaus said on his WSVN-Fox segment tonight that he believes Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott (not a client of his) would be too good to pass up for Miami if available at No. 13 and said he's in the same class as Todd Gurley, who caught Miami's eye last year.

The team being high on Hewitt and Vigil may be a smoke screen, but both did show some playmaking potential.

Drew Rosenhaus is more ''super liar'' than superagent... and Zeke is NOT in the same class of back as Gurley IMO.

I was pulling for Hewitt, the darkhorse UDFA from the Thundering Herd to make the team & i'd like to see what he could do with more playing time..He caught my eye in a Marshall game i was watching, seems to have a good nose for the ball. IMO, Todd Gurley is a once in a decade back, so it would be pretty ironic having another once in a decade back the very next year; i think Zeke's an excellent back who actually may be the better all-around back, but he's nowhere near as electric as Gurley...

Yep, completely agree... the pats scouted Hewitt and met with him a couple times. Was happily surprised when we snagged him.

Pats site with good run down - http://www.patspulpit.com/2015/4/28/...tt-lb-marshall

Zeke is a good back and very complete, but you're right in your assessment of him from my POV.

I think Rosemans axe to grind with Kelly and wanted to purge all things Kelly except Bradford. 2 birds with a stone by dumping 2 players to move up in the draft when Kelly failed last year to move up. This is personal!
Just frolic and live in the now like Dolphins and Man's best friend.

Also, new DC in Philly, Schwartz, is going in a different direction than the previous guy, Davis... Schwartz moved Kiko out of Buffalo previously.

As I said last week sometime in one of the threads, I don't take a RB that high unless he is a Todd Gurley and neither Elliot or Henry are that.
While it takes two to have an argument, it only takes one to walk away.

Completely Agree. I like Henry better than Elliott, but am not a fan of either one.

I couldn't agree with this more, we were suckered....but that's the type of players Miami has, broken down injured has been at one time players, hence why we're last in our division...

No doubt Hewitt was by far the best player at LB last year, I'm not sure how much that's worth though, they had to be the very worse LB's in the whole entire existence of football, so being the best may not be all that good.....

Little early to say that. Even 70% of Kiko is better than 100% of Misi, Sheppard, other JAG. Same for Maxwell - and we don't necessarily need ''stars'', just solid starters who can stay healthy.

Hewitt really came on strong at the end of the season. With all these guys, we just Joseph to be a better DC than Coyles was. Shouldn't be hard considering how much Coyles just flat out sucked.

Right now LBs - 1st team: Misi, Alonso, Jenkins - 2nd team: Hewitt, Vigil, Hull

I would expect more of the same from last year, JMO, I do agree Alonso will be an up grade, but we're at the bottom, so how much of an up grade...only time will tell....

But what I would do is move Dion back to OLB and let him play what he was meant to play and has always played, I don't know, but seems to me we should have someone that can cover TE's, again, JMO.....

We should know Dion's status by the EOM. Hoping Kiko and his trainer are both right about him and he's ready to come back and contribute. Fingers crossed on that one.
