  • Free Agents worth signing

LB Zach Brown - He would provide some depth at MLB. He is actually good in coverage so he could get a lot of playing time on obvious passing downs.

RB Ronnie Hillman - He had 863 rushing yards for a 4.2 YPC and scored 7 TD's for the Broncos last year and he is only 24 years old. He could be a good complement to Ajayi and he will come cheap.

C Stefan Wisniewski - If we believe that Pouncey can be moved to OG this would make sense since he is a quality Center and only 27 years old.

I know it's a running joke but I would like to give up a 7th rounder for Kniles Davis and also sign Hillman. I believe Davis, Hillman,Ajayi and the last spot if we keep 4 which we should will be between DT,Pead,Williams and the other guy. This way we can devote the draft on defense plus a guard.

    I) Apple
    2) Garnett/Westerman
    3) Nassib
    4) Martinez
    5) Sean Davis
    6) BPA WR
    7) BPA Guard

I know i liked Zach Brown coming out (A guy named Zach who plays MLB, what's not to like right??) but i haven't followed him since,, any good??

I'll take a pass on Ronnie Hillman; i really wanted CJ b/c he's such a tough runner but IMO most times Denver's backs seem to thrive in their system, plusit seems that no one's real interested in signing him including Gase who has history with him.

I liked the idea of signing Wisnieski (was it last yr. or the year before?) and doing exactly what you're suggesting, though Pouncey hasn't proven he can effectively play the Guard position at this level he has to be better than what we currently have!

Agree... and yes, wanted Stefan Wisniewski the last time he was on the market. He can play both guard and center.

I know I am probably alone here on this one but I think the Filphins should look into Walter Thurmond III. Imagine have Maxwell and Thurmond as the Dolphins starters. That doesn't sound appealing to anyone else, having two CB's from Seattle's incredible defense?

Yeah, he will cost some money but can anyone guarantee that Apple or other rookies will be able to make the transition and be a day one game changer? With the Patriots acquiring Bennett to help Gronk out it would be really nice to have two veteran cornerbacks back there.

Thurmond would be a good signing, or what about Leon Hall, he is still out there and he probably wouldn't be that expensive.

I would be happy with either. I was just thinking that if those two were reunited the Dolphins defense might turn out to be what some thought it would be last season.

We looked at Thurmond back before signing IAQ. Thurmond is wanting $6+ million and just isn't worth that.

I guess that's why Thurmond is still sitting, waiting for the phone to ring...could be a while....

IMO, there will be no more semi-big to big $$ FA signings 'til after the date it no longer affects compensatory picks...Some believe guys like Hall & Nelson, maybe even Thurmond and a couple others have deals with teams already in place & to be finalized then..Whether this is accurate or not, and especially whether Miami is one of those teams, i have no idea..But it definitely makes sense & would explain why you're not hearing anything about these guys..

Thats why I suggested Brown Hillman and Wisniewski since they are not big name free agents and should not affect future compensatory picks. I think we could sign 2 of those 3 players. I know you don't like Hillman and thats fine we can draft a RB. I just thought a player like Brown who can provide LB depth and get a lot of playing time since his forte is in pass coverage and we can always use LB's who are good in coverage. Also Wisniewski since having him would allow Pouncey to move to OG. I don't know why Pouncey struggled so much at OG a couple years ago since when he was drafted I remember many people thought was a better fit for OG rather than Center.

Agreed on Zach, like i said i haven't really followed him since he came out of college but i know i liked him out of UNC..Good point on having a guy who can drop into coverage, especially when facing New England & their arsenal of TE's twice yearly.

yeah, i always thought Pouncey would've made a killer Guard, and who knows, he might be..but he's been struggling with his hip issues which i can only imagine how that must suck when your success depends upon your core strength...I'd like to bring in a good Center and look towards dumping Pouncey in the near future, he just seems like he's starting to fall apart..

As far as Hillman goes, it's not that i don't like him (believe me, i'd rather have him on the roster than Daniel Thomas!) I just wonder what Gase knows that we don't...i'm all for drafting a RB this year, hopefully a decent one and not just a warm body (We don't seem to have a lot of luck drafting backs) but i'd still like a decent veteran if we can pick one up...

yeah, i think they finally clued in that spending the most money in FA doesn't guarantee you shit,, unfortunately they've done a complete 180 & decided they ain't spending shit...

Oh great Brown and Wisniweski are both off the market. I wish we had more of a happy medium approach to free agency instead of either making one huge splash and doing nothing.

I question how good Wis is? Raiders drafted him and they decided to not resign. Jags sign him only to allow him to walk. Maybe he is not worth his weight in gold. Rather get Garnett or Westerman cause they are true guards. Or Kelly in the 2nd over Wis.

I would have at least liked to sign Zach Brown to provide our LB corps with some depth and he would probably have gotten a lot of playing time since his forte is pass coverage.

Every year we make a huge splash in FA and it doesn't work. We all complain that they should build through the draft instead of going after high priced FA's and this year it appears they may be doing just that and yet here we are complaining again. I personally am going to wait and see how the draft works out before I throw the team in the garbage. I must confess though that so far I am totally uninspired with what they have done.
While it takes two to have an argument, it only takes one to walk away.

Agree, Bob. I was hoping for quality FA guard, but that didn't happen. Also, we need time for Gase and Joseph to implement their schemes and evaluate the roster. We have more cash and draft picks next year, where it will make more sense to push for upgrades than this season.

The draft and camp cuts/signings will really set the roster. I'm still rooting for 8 or 9 wins if we can stay healthy at key positions.

Not sure I'd even want to put a number on the W/L, I just want to see them be competitive this year instead of the embarrassment they've bee the last few years.

Yup, i'm glad we decided not to play at the high-dollar table this year; i mean the $$ thrown at decent talent like OV was absolutely absurd! I do think there is an in-between to the science of FA however,, not being stupid & throwing your money away doesn't mean necessarily that all of your shopping has to be done in the clearance aisle...Damn sure gonna be nice to see how the other side lives & have a couple of decent compensatory picks for a change!

Agree. Bout time we did something other than chase the bigger name FAs. Hoping to build from the draft going forward.
