  • GMs who value and who don't SS RBs

Typically Super Star Backs are found in the 1st round. Others get luckier finding in the mid rounds. It certainly is a crap shoot and I am one who values D as a whole and Oline before a RB in the 1st so I get it.

Sometimes you have to buck the trend. JJ built the Cowboys on the back of his featured RB and it paid off. Others like the Giants (Barkley) have not including Miami taking a Back as the 2nd overall pick in the early 2000s.

Zeke was great pick although I would have taken Ramsey before him. Teams when they feel they are 1 piece away tend to take that chance. Grier other than choosing Drake in the 3rd either believes in RB by committee or thinks RBs have a long learning curve when drafted and acclimating to the NFL.

I know we are not 1 piece away but that could be said for most all years. I do not want one this year as I am currently happy with the group we have plus a late round pick. If a 1st round can't miss is there like a Zeke or Barkley ( not knowing he will get injured ) would you want a more pro RB GM?

P.S. This is not a Grier bashing thread but hoping he can sometimes throw a left curve and mix it up especially if a potential SS RB is there for the picking.

I would prefer to have a GM that values the running back position

I’m not saying they need to draft a RB in the 1st but at least pick one early

I can’t stand the mediocre running back by committee approach because it only works if you have a great OLine

In Grier’s first season as GM he took X over Henry and there could be debate about that but it was a good pick

Grier drafted Kenyan Drake with his next pick so he obviously was looking at RB’s early

In 2019 Grier moved on from Drake and in the 2020 draft he had to opportunity to replace him

Grier decided Iggy was a better draft pick over Jonathan Taylor, SeAndre Swift and many other talented RBs

The Dolphins ranked about 14th in rushing overall with their RB group so not sure why they felt the need to bring them all back

I thought Mostert and Wilson were enough and hoped they would go after a true, young, RB 1

Not seeing an improvement being made on the OLine, yet, but with these RBs I hope Grier focuses on that soon

In the words of the infamous Bill Parsell, "If they want you to cook the dinner, at least they ought to let you shop for some of the groceries." It's not at all uncommon for a HC to throw his two cents in on players in the draft. I suspect MOST GM's not only expect it, MOST would want to know how the HC feels about players.

Yeah, I’m aware of that fact

It just pisses me off because he’s NOT a good player and they didn’t need a CB and missed out on great talent

Absolutely no argument there bud. I hated the pick.

I won't go as far as DBob in that his ideal football score is 3-2 ha! I would like a 21-6 score to show our running game can be consistent and score inside the red zone. The other team can have 2 field goals against us hehehe!

DBob’s 3-2 score would work for me if I had one of those teams defenses in fantasy football 😊

I don't believe in overpaying or going out of our way to sign a top tier Free Agent RB, however if the opportunity presents itself to draft a really good RB then I would do it. You then have them on a rookie deal on the cheap for the next 4 years. I think it makes sense to stay young and cheap at the RB position while trying to also remain talented at the position.

For instance if we had our first round pick this year I might have selected Bijan Robinson if he were to be available to us. If a stud like him happens to be available then I would draft him.

I was hoping we would draft a RB with one of our top 3 picks, Gibbs 2nd round and Charbonnet 3rd round were some of my favorites but after we re-signed our entire backfield from last year it doesnt make sense to use such a high draft pick on a RB now.

I am ok with re-signing Mostert and Wilson but I don't understand bringing back Ahmed and Gaskin. I would have rather spent that money on another position and drafted a RB with one of our late round picks and added another veteran RB at some later point in Free Agency.

If I had my choice of FA RB's to sign I might have chosen Mattison who basically got the same deal as Mostert 2 years $7M and Kareem Hunt who still has not signed. Mattison is only 25 and doesnt have the injury concerns Mostert has and Hunt is only 28 and is a good dual threat RB. Then I would have drafted a RB with one of our late round picks.

All good options you presented. We all know Grier is not a high draft guy for RB. Thing is if he becomes too predictable then other GMs know his MO and will use that against him.

I would rather spend my money on a strong O line. If you have a good O line then your RB's will be better.

A SS Rb is a luxury, not a foundational piece. The best evidence for that argument is the lack of one on the last 10 winners of the Super Bowl. A minor case can be made for the Giants drafting Barkley at #2...with no offensive line to block for him.

Give me RB by committee until we have a top 10 o line.

So long as we have a running game by committee or RB1 then we can exploit the passing game and vice versa. True I'd rather develop the line as you mentioned.

SS o-linemen= the potential of good players on offense to be SS players.
Grier has no concept of that= team getting to a middle of the road at best for years that included adding plenty of SS players.
the last person to go after top talent on the o-line was Bill Parcells and he took Jake Long Home and then left and they never helped out long . Parcells was going to build a running team and where did he start ,O-LINE. he didn't start by going after SS rb's... I believe he was doing it right!

Parcells should have take Matt Ryan who played for 15+ years instead he takes Long and Henne. What could have been!

I'm sorry to say that if Matt Ryan came to miami he would have left miami as all other QBs have since marino,a nobody QB! Miami has had QB's that could have lead miami to maybe not a SB but winning season and playoffs if they had management concentrate on adding SS O-Linemen instead of half dead ,just off IR ,FORMER good or great linemen.

to this day, as I and many here have stated and called for over the years to build a fresh, young, and skilled o-line but have been disappointed year after year.

This year I believe miami has a chance to build a SB team for the future and not just one but maybe multipule SB's, but not if they don't get a strong, young, skilled and coached o-line!

Funny thing is drafting a RB in 1st almost assures you will not win a SB let alone even get to one ,extremely rare set of circumstance , particularly in the last 20+years.

The name Laremy Tunsil ring any bells?
