  • Are the Fins looking to trade for a RB??

After going down swinging in several attempts to acquire a RB in FA, it's now being reported that the Fins are exploring the avenue of possibly trading for one...Gase says he plans on using a stable of backs and regardless of how many he ultimately ends up with on the roster, it's obvious that we can't go into the season with only Ajayi & Williams. Well, i guess i shouldn't say obvious, since it looks like we're going into the season with no NFL Guards...

A trade makes since as it wouldn't affect the compensatory picks we'll get for OV & Miller leaving (a 3rd & 4th i believe) I'm assuming we'd look to trade a mid to late rd. pick for a back who isn't really starter material, but a guy who could come in and complement Ajayi. Here's BR's take on it:

The Miami Dolphins are reportedly in talks with several teams to acquire a running back after the departure of Lamar Miller in free agency and a failed attempt to sign C.J. Anderson from the Denver Broncos. With the unproven Jay Ajayi atop the depth chart, it's clear the Dolphins need an injection of depth in the backfield. But don't look for them to make a splash anywhere near as big as the Tennessee Titans' trade for DeMarco Murray. Instead, the Dolphins will likely try to find a bargain for another team's excess tailback. Here are 10 names to watch:Ryan Mathews, EaglesThe Eagles reportedly shopped both Mathews and DeMarco Murray earlier this offseason before eventually settling on a deal to ship their higher-priced runner out of town. Mathews looks like new head coach Doug Pederson's starter by default, but it's possible the Eagles would prefer to wipe the slate totally clean and start over with a rookie.Charcandrick West/Spencer Ware, ChiefsThe Chiefs expect to have Jamaal Charles back from an ACL tear by the start of the season and, given Charles' history of coming back strong from such an injury, there's no reason to think he won't be the team's clear-cut starter. Both West and Ware impressed in relief of Charles last season, but there aren't enough touches to satisfy every member of a three-headed attack. The Chiefs could look to trade from this position of strength, with West perhaps slightly more likely to be the one to move given his similarity to Charles. Denard Robinson, JaguarsThe Jaguars gave Chris Ivory a sizable deal in free agency only a year after spending an early second-round pick on T.J. Yeldon. It's clear they plan to use a two-headed rushing attack, which should leave little work for Robinson. Though Robinson doesn't have the body to be a featured runner, he has gashed defenses in small doses and might make a great complement to a player like Ajayi. Bishop Sankey, TitansThe first running back drafted only two years ago has been a tremendous disappointment. Sankey now sits behind DeMarco Murray and David Cobb on the Titans' depth chart and is far from a lock to make the team's final roster. The Titans would likely trade him for pennies on the dollar. Lorenzo Taliaferro, RavensThe Ravens still have Justin Forsett and Javorius Allen on the roster, plus they are reportedly bringing in Trent Richardson. It's hard to see where third-year player Taliaferro fits in. The Ravens love to stockpile draft picks and might relish the chance to be compensated for a player they might otherwise be forced to cut. Branden Oliver, ChargersRemember him from your fantasy waiver wire two seasons ago? Oliver's 2015 campaign was entirely forgettable and it's difficult to see where he fits on the Chargers moving forward, especially with the likelihood that Melvin Gordon will take on an even bigger role. Oliver could probably be acquired for a late-round pick.Isaiah Crowell, BrownsCrowell has occasionally looked like an impact player in his two seasons in the NFL, but just as often looked lost. It's clear the previous Browns regime never fully trusted him on or off the field. The new regime hasn't been shy about letting players from the team's old losing culture walk, so Crowell could potentially be very cheap to acquire. Theo Riddick/Zach Zenner, LionsAmeer Abdullah will lead the Lions' rushing attack next season. Whether the Lions believe he can be a feature back could dictate if either of the other tailbacks on the roster is made available via trade.

I would rather just draft a RB. If Derrick Henry is available in the 2nd round then I would take him. If he is not then I would wait until the 4th round and if CJ Procise is available then I would take him if not then I would take Jordan Howard.

I'd like to draft a good, solid RB, but i'm not sure i like going into the season with a tandem of Ajayi (hurt most of the year & very little experience) Williams (has shown some flashes but so far JAG) & a rookie; i guess if you're looking ahead to 2017 & plan on losing 12 games or so, it might be a plan...Definitely not opposed to trading a 5th or 6th rounder for a decent back...

I like Henry a lot but i don't really want to draft a RB that high with so many other needs, althougfh if hes the BPA & he falls to us in the 2nd rd. i'd have to seriously consider it. There is some talk that Henry was way over-used by Saban & may have a very limited shelf life, something to consider...

Most RB's have little shelf life.. There are a few, hence, Lynch, Peterson, and the great Walter Payton and Ricky Williams.. Alway's draft fresh young legs when you're in need...

I was discussing this with Mitch and a couple other guys in the other group and Mitch mentioned that this is a very poor class of RB's this year. While he doesn't really want to go into the season with what we currently have, he feels we'd be much better off if we wait til next year for a RB because next years draft is supposed to be much better at RB. I don't follow college that much so I can't argue the point with him.
While it takes two to have an argument, it only takes one to walk away.

Knowshon Moreno and Arian Foster to pair with Ajayi. Both should be cheap and get us through most of the season with the injury history between the two. If both can stay healthy that would be one hell of a backfield and less of a load to carry between the two as well which would lesson the chance of injury and stay fresher.

Although I think both Foster and Moreno would be great signings I don't think either of them would want to play in Miami. Moreno has already been here and done that and Foster will just kick back and wait until he gets healthier and a team making a playoff run this season will want his services. JMO

Trent Richardson has been losing some weight and taking football more seriously. Maybe the Dolphins can steal him away from the Ravens? before they sign him?

yeah, i don't follow college nearly as much as i used to so i can only rely on the limited number of games i watch through the year and when certain skill players are talked about as big-time prospects i'll try to catch them more often..I know there are a handful of good backs coming out but i don't want to use a high pick on one; Zeke Elliot is being talked up to be a stud in the NFL as he can do everything really well (run, catch & block) with good vision in the open field, but he's more than likely gonna be off the board @ 13, & would we really consider using our 1st on a RB even if he is there??...

I have no problem waiting 'til next offseason to address the RB position as i've already resigned myself to the fact that this coming season is a throw-awa; we are going to suck BIG-TIME! I think clueless-ass Ross is the only one who doesn't realize that this team is in complete rebuild mode & he damn sure is too clueless to know that he with his half-measures is the one who put us there!

I don't think Foster is gonna sign for cheap, at least not with the Miami Dolphins...He's going to continue to work on getting into football shape & try to sign with a contender..I love Knowshon Moreno but that ship has sailed..If only he could've stayed healthy, he would've been beast for us! I'd be surprised if he ever plays again for anybody...

Miami still needs an O-line. Running backs don't do well at all when the O-line sux.........hint, hint, hint

Pretty sure at this point they're not taking any hints nor do they have a freakin' clue as far as the No-Line goes...I think the plan is if you keep a revolving door of cadavers, turnstiles & telephone booths manning the line you won't have to pay out any bonuses to RB's for breaking their yardage incentives!

RB's have a short shelf life in the NFL anyway. If Henry is available to us in the 2nd round I would take him. He is a beast and I think he could make our o-line look better than what they are. I have a feeling that Henry might just be there when we select in the 2nd round. Most mocks seem to have Henry being selected early in the 2nd round but it would not shock me at all if he slips to our spot.

This makes more sense as anything I've heard since all this FA stuff started.

If we did trade for a RB I like Spencer Ware of the Chiefs. He turns 25 in November and he will only make $600K in 2016. In 2015 he had 72 rushes for 403 yards for a 5.6 YPC average scoring 6 TD's and 0 fumbles. He is 5'10 225 lbs so he is a big physical back.

I would give the Chiefs one of our 7th round picks for him.

Arrested for 2 dui charges . One he beat due to technicality, the other I'm not sure. Chifs picked him up knowing his legal troubles and seems he made the best of his playing time. Miami being a party city and all I'm not sure it's a good mix.

Its funny, all these media experts who are fawning over the Texans signing Lamar Miller, he basically had the same season last year as Rashad Jennings, except he did have 5 more TD's. Here are their 2015 stats.

                        Lamar Miller - 872 yards - 4.5 YPC - 8 TD's - 1 fumble - 40 first down runs

                        Rashad Jennings 863 yards - 4.4 YPC - 3 TD's - 1 fumble - 40 first down runs

What about signing another Broncos RB? Ronnie Hillman had a season not that far off from Lamar Miller's last year. 863 yards, 4.2 YPC, 7 TD's, 2 fumbles, 43 first down runs.

I've been studying him and I think his career may go upwards under gase. Don't know why our FO ain't lookin his way. I know he was ineffective down the stretch but I see something in him.
