  • Nick Fairley

He is the only free agent still on the market worth signing as far as the Dolphins should be concerned. He played really well for the Rams last year and he is only 28 years old. Suh and Fairley formed a formidable duo when they were with the Lions. We struggled stopping the run last year and so we could use some DT help. Mitchell did not play well last year and I have my doubts that Phillips will show much improvement. This will also take another draft need off the table. I am not sure how much money we have left to spend but I would make one more move and sign Fairley. Maybe he could be had on a 2 year $10M deal.

I have a funny feeling Miami is eyeing the comp picks next year and Fairley might jeopardize that someway. Otherwise I'm all for 2/10 mil.
Just frolic and live in the now like Dolphins and Man's best friend.

I thought this was a good idea last year and I still think it's a good idea. Tannenbaum seems to be wanting to build a really solid D-Line and Fairly would definitely help with that. If he is weighing comp picks with Fairly, I don't think he will find a DT in the draft with a 3rd round or later pick. Fairly is going to be a better player then anything he will find in those rounds, in my opinion anyway.

There's a team in the AFC East interested in Fairley,, unfortunately it's not us...Even more unfortunate, it's the Pats!

I'm pretty sure all our BIG NAME FA Spending is done,, it's on to the draft (sigh-h-h)....

We must have some money left to spend after the CJ Anderson signing fell through. We freed up a lot of cap space and we haven't spend that much so I find it hard to believe that we are tapped out.

Nah, we're not tapped out..I'm just saying IMO, the big purchase shopping is done,, the remaining shopping will be done in the clearance aisle...It's obvious we're trying to change our method of FA shopping and try & get some compensatory picks, as teams like the Pats have been doing for years - Especially considering starting next year you can use comp. picks in trades.

I believe we are still $17 million under the cap, same as NE. If we grabbed Fairly we could cut Mitchell so the cap impact would be much less than what Fairley's cap number would be. I think it's a good idea. Agree with Freak that he's worth a 3rd or 4th round compensatory pick that we would lose if we did sign him.

yeah, i'm not saying i agree with it,, i'm just guessing that's their thinking on the subject..I personally would sign Farley to pair with Suh in a heartbeat, hell the way the Lions D manhandled us when we played them i'd sign their whole D if i could...

The word on the street is that the Patriots are not going to sign Fairly and that the Saints are the next in line to sign him.

I agree with Idahomer if we cut Mitchell we can save more cap space which would allow us to sign Fairley. I think he could be had on a 2 year $12M deal. So thats $6M minus about $2M in cap savings if we release Mitchell so its only about a $4M cap hit. We would still be about $13M under the cap. I think we have to save about $7M for the draft. There really are no more other quality free agents worth signing. This move would also help solidify what was one of our biggest weaknesses last year, run defense.
