Did anyone else notice all the playoff teams have a great TE and actually use them as a huge part of the game plan?

Miami has Gesicki who has the tools to be a top TE and Greir and McDufus are running him out of town making TE one of our top needs. WTF?

Yeah, the lack of usage of Gesecki this year is a true head scratcher. I am perplexed if it is mostly due to his lack of blocking skill. The guy is a pass catching weapon and paired with Waddle and Hill, i thought his talent would be showcased and enhanced by what he brings to complement those two. I thought at the beginning of the year that the only constraint would be how to get him targets. Someone will use him the way he should be used and he will have a monster season.

Yes I don't understand why we couldnt get Gesicki involved in the offense especially with how much attention oppossing defenses have to pay to Hill and Waddle.

Yes for sure. I will argue that Mike G is not as great tight end. I think he's a very good TE/WR but he's not the same as these guys we're watching. Godert, Kelce, Kittle are in a different league. Here's why I say that. Mike G can catch passes with the best of them. Mike G runs decent routes.. What Mike G doesn't do is break tackles where he trucks a defender or two and churns out additional yards. Kelce, Godert, and Kittle all get huge YAC after breaking the initial tackles. Mike G goes down so freakin easy it isn't even funny. Guy makes almost zero YAC after first contact, and your TE is as guy you expect to drag defenders with him.

Mike G also is not quick - in fact he's slow. He's fast in terms of top end speed, but he lumbers and it takes him 10 yards to get to a top speed. I look at these other TE's and they are open by a lot. They create separation that Mike G does not. Even when double teamed like Kelce is frequently he gets open, he finds the open spots in the defense. Seems to me like Gesecki is closely covered on most throws, and that is his inability to separate.

I'm not bashing Mike G. but he's a different type of TE from these guys that are really involved and helping their offenses. I would also point out that most teams don't have Tyrek Hill and Jalen Waddle - just having those two weapons immediately takes focus away from the TE position. Eagles have two studs and still involve Godert, but they are more of the exception.. Kelce leads KC in targets, and I'm pretty sure Kittle is second or third in targets at SF..

I just don't think Gesecki is as elite as we want him to be. Now add the fact that he's not a great blocker and I see a guy that is a better fit somewhere else who is looking more for a big slot WR versus your typical TE.

I think Gesicki will be a Giant if they clean up some cap room.

              Just a thought...

Work out a trade with the Packers. Sign Gesicki for 3 years and trade him for Jordan Love. He's as good as the QBs, at the very least the Kentucky QB, coming out IMO.

Tua is the starter, but lets not get caught with our pants down if he can't physically hold up.

We need to give them more than Gesickini bet. They probably still want a 2nd in my opinion.

No way the Packers let go of Love. He is their starter this Fall. Rodgers will be gone, maybe to the Jets, or Colts. Did anyone see when Love came in for an injured Rodgers 1 game this year? He looked good.

Gesicki WAS a top ranked Tight End prior to McDaniels trying to turn him into a blocker

In 2021 Gesicki was a Top 5 or so TE despite having a revolving door at QB

in 2021 he had the 2nd most yards per reception on targets 10 plus air yards (20.4 yards per reception)

McDaniel will let him walk in free agency and fans will have to wait another 10 plus years before they have a TE of his caliber

Losing Gesicki won’t be as bad as Welker but it won’t be fun watching him make Pro Biwls for another team

              George Kittle's usage (2019-22):

              Route-Run Percentage:
              2019: 78.5%
              2020: 83.2%
              2021: 83.3%
              2022: 86.7%

              Target Percentage:
              2019: 29.9%
              2020: 28.3%
              2021: 22.4%
              2022: 15.4%

Kittle's running the same # of routes the last 4 years (not pass blocking more), but being targeted less.

For someone with 10 unremarkable starts in 2 seasons compared to Gesicki's body of work, asking for anything else is a slap in the face. Let him waste away on the bench when Aaron Rodgers puts them through the grinder again next season.

I would pursue Austin Hooper. He is one of the better blocking TE's and he still put up decent receiving numbers last year and he is only 28.

Not sure of the figures but Gesicki looks more like a WR than a TE.
You look at all the top TE and they are all bigger set than Gesicki and more convincing as blockers. We struggle big time in protecting the QB and with a TE who's isn't big enough to block, it creates even bigger problems.

Almost all the top tight ends in the NFL are the exact same size

They are ALL around 6’5” and weigh about 250-256 pounds

Mike Gesicki, Travis Kelce, George Kittle, Mark Andrews, Dallas Goedert, T.J. Hockenson, Zach Ertz, etc

The problem is that they don’t teach TE’s how to block well at the college level

But, Gesick wasn’t drafted to be a blocking TE but is now being asked to block by the new HC

To me it sucks because he is from NJ. He was drafted by the Fins and is an exciting player. Hate to see someone with pro-bowl talent run out of town to perform on another team.

It really bothers me because really good TE’s are hard to find

I know he’s not a Kelce or Kittle but few are and if they let him go it will take them 10 years to find their next good TE

Since he is leaving hopefully he goes back home to the Giants and stays away from our division.
