  • Apple all the way!

Unless Hargreaves drops to us at our slot ( most unlikely ), and I believe Alexander will be year one ready more than Apple. I truly believe with 1 year tutelage under our coachesApple will catch up to or surpass Alexander and others. To truly have 2 tall comers in Apple and Maxwell will make it very difficult for QBs.
My other choice at 13 is Conklin but I think Linemen are deep in this draft with not much drop off. DE can wait with all our signings. Zeke is the only other player that might make me change my mind.

I think meeting Hargreaves after the Pro day is a semi smokescreen that they want Apple who according to some analyst would fit better in Miami's press cover under the new regime.

I totally agree, unless Hargreaves drops to us then we should take Eli Apple. Hargreaves might be more pro ready right now but I think in the long run Apple might turn out to be the better corner. Besides, we need another starting corner opposite Maxwell and this is not a deep corner class so its unlikely we will be able to find a starting caliber corner in the later rounds.

Then OG RB and LB should be our biggest draft priorities. I think we are ok at DE but I would draft a DE if there is one available that we really like.

Just read an article about the Maxwell trade with Gase promising that whoever we draft at 13 will be a day one starter. I hope they feel that about Apple.

Now that Patrick Robinson officially signs with Colts we are in dire need of a 1st round CB in my mind.

Yup Patrick Robinson was someone I was hoping we would sign but now that he has signed elsewhere we definitely need to draft a corner in the first round.

I don't know why so many mock draft sites have us taking DB McKenzie Alexander with the 13th pick. He is generally considered the 4th or 5th best DB prospect in the draft. After Hargreaves, Apple is the next best DB prospect and thats who we should take at #13. In fact on Bleacher Report's latest mock draft they had us taking McKenzie Alexander and the Raiders taking Apple with the very next pick so #13 is really not much of a reach for him and I am on board with us drafting Eli Apple in the first round.

I think most analyst think we need an impact player now and Alexander may be the more ready player. I'm betting on the regime that likes bigger DBs and quietly semi rebeuliding and throwing Apple out there as a starter the first year to take his lumps.

Emphasis on press should take Hargreaves out of the equation at 13. William Jackson, Artie Burns and Eli Apple fit

Yes that's what I saw too.which is why meeting up with Hargreaves after the pro day screams smokescreen.

R5. OG Connor McGovern - RB Paul Perkins - LB Antonio Morrison - FS Sean Davis - DT Hassan Ridgeway

              I would draft

              2. Henry
              3. Westerman
              4. Martinez
              5. Morrison
              6. Bush
              7. Coker
              7. Weatherly

If Henry drops to us he would be too appealing to pass up. Then I would take Westerman to upgrade the o-line. Then I would double up on LB's since Misi and Alonso are injury prone we need depth. Then Bush for some secondary depth and Coker for a developmental QB and Weatherly if he is available simply because of his athletic upside.

Actually I will make some changes to my previous mock draft.

                R1. DB Eli Apple

R2. C Ryan Kelly - Move Pouncey to OG.

                R3. LB Joshua Perry

                R4. RB Jordan Howard

                R5. DT Hassan Ridgeway

                R6. FS Deon Bush

                R7. QB Jacob Coker

                R7. DE Stephen Weatherly

Mcshay 4.0 has us taking Elliot at 13 and Ogbah in the 2nd. In this scenario Miami better hope for a post June 1st cuts on serviceable DBs.

              • #12
I really like both Elliott and Ogbah but am not sure they will be available to us. Corner in my opinion is our most pressing need and should be addressed in the first round.

I agree CB is a huge need and if the right guy is there at 13 I wouldn't be upset if we grabbed him. Now with that said I DO NOT want to reach for a CB. I also believe DE is just as big a need and is also just as important to the success of our team. Wake may or may not have a year or two left, Williams may or may not have a few years left, Branch is a complete unknown, Fede is a 3rd year project that has shown flashes but is still unknown, McCain is under sized for a DE and is a question mark, Moore has all the talent in the world but has been lazy and alouf in his college and pro career, and Dion Jordon is a protein shake away from permanent ban and is also a unknown quantity. So as deep as our D line is on paper, it's short term good.

If Shaq Lawson is there at #13 I think he is a better talent long run for the phins to draft. There are several other CB's that can be had in later rounds that could still be day one starters. I also expect more vet CB's to hit the market after the draft. To me Lawson has the most upside and is a guy we will need desperately in the next few years as our older DE's fade into the sunset. I think Hargreaves at 13 would be a steal, but then again I'm starting to read he may not be a great fit in VJ's defense because he likes "press" corners and Hargreaves doesn't fair as well in press coverage. I guess we will have to wait until the draft to know what our front office is thinking, but I'm starting to lean towards Lawson as my #1 target at 13.

I'd love Elliott in round 1 and come back and get CB William Jackson in round 2 if we're lucky.

I don't think Jackson will make it out of the first round. Its possible Kendal Fuller would be available to us in round 2 if we decided to take Elliott in the first round. How would you feel about Hargeaves or Apple in the first round and Derrick Henry in the 2nd round?
