  • Plan to fix the O-line

See if we can sign Evan Mathis in free agency. He will turn 35 during the season so its unlikely somebody will offer him more than a 1 year deal. Since he lives in Miami he might just like to come home and play for the Dolphins if we offer him good money. I am thinking a 1 year $5M deal would be good enough since its unlikely he will get any better offers than that. Remember last year he settled for playing in Denver because nobody else was willing to give him a big contract.

Now on to the draft. I would either take OG Cody Whitehair if he is available to us in the 2nd round. If not then I would draft C Ryan Kelly if Pouncey was willing to play OG. Another option in the 2nd round is to take LT Jason Spriggs if Branden Albert can play OG.

If none of them are available in the 2nd round then I would take OG Joshua Garnett in the 3rd round.

Christian Westerman is another option in the 4th round.

So our o-line could look like one of these combinations.

    Albert - Mathis - Pouncey - Whitehair - James

    Albert - Mathis - Kelly - Pouncey - James

    Spriggs - Albert - Pouncey - Mathis - James

Albert - Mathis - Pouncey - Garnett or Westerman - James

Our depth would be Young - Bushrod - Turner - Thomas or Douglas

I like the idea of adding Mathis (it's like deja vu all over again) and he might just go for it this time for the reasons you mentioned (Plus with players leaving Denver like rats from a sinking ship, it's not like he's gonna win another championship there) I figure we might have to add another incentive or two, like tell him he doesn't have to show up for team meetings, he can just do a conference call while he plays X-Box at home and he can personally educate the front ofice & staff on the mythical Guard position that they don't even know exists...

I think Mathis has zero interest in Miami. We DID try to sign him last year, but he turned us down wanting to go to a contender. He said he took less money from the Broncos than we offered him last season. He spent most of last season working out and staying fresh while waiting for a team he was interested in to come calling.

I'd love to get him, but Mathis has reached the point in age and accumulated wealth, to where he can cherry pick where he wants to go. He's made $30M in his career and now has a SB ring. If fkn Sparano hadn't dumped him he could likely still be here... Ireland brought in both Evan Mathis and Rob Ninkovich, then Sparano and Pasqualoni dumped them both. Mathis even started 7 games for us and played well in 08. Huge Mistakes.

As for the draft - completely agree on Whitehair and Garnett. Also, Glasgow, Westerman, and Jack Allen would be good alternatives.
