  • Compensatory picks

How do the Patriots get comp picks every year? No matter what they get picks, they get 4 this year, I guess that makes up for the first rounder that the NFL took from them, good way to pay Robert back, Thanks Roger

There's a league rule that not many people know about; before every year the Patriots are offered their choice - they can either have 5-10 compensatory picks (the actual number is determined by drawing it out of a hat) or a voucher for a one year free-pass on cheating...

I actually saw a brief description of how they award comp picks....some formula written into the league bylaws that measures the value of this years losses vs. The value of last years FA gains. Even in a year in which the Dolphins had some significant loss of players we cant help but step on our own ****s cause we signed Suh and other FAs last year that helped us get to the playoffs this year........................wait?

In all seriousness it would not surprise me one bit if the Pats organization has a specfic plan in place which measures and plans for FA signings, vs. Expected losses with the goal of maximizing their comp picks every year.....you know like a world class, professionally run sports organization vs.....big eared owners who only hire through dumpster diving.

I think the Patriots know what they are doing. They have a science department on this.

We should have 2 or 3 picks coming back to us next season. As for the Pats, we knew the league would find a way to make up being forced to penalize them by taking away a couple over their latest cheating scandal...

Thats the thing Cuch. As much as we all like to dump on thd Pats and Deflategate was like raw meat, according to what i read there is a measurement system available to all; i dont know the details but i believe it is similar in concept to the Draft Trade Value charts. My point is that based on everyone having the same data it would be very difficult for the Pats to somehow cheat the system or for the NFL to somehow compensate the Pats as some form of makeup from deflategate. Goodell could have very easily reduced their fine or gave them back their draft pick....there is precedent for him reversing himself. Everyone having the same data also does not mean that the Dolphins use that information the same as the Pats. I also read an article that said over the last 7 years or so the Dolphins have spent the most money on free agents....#1 spenders. Based on that i could see why thr Dolphins never get any comp picks worth noting.
