  • What If This Trade Goes Through ? ( #13? )

    Dolphins Lucky Number #13

So, if this trade goes through and the rumors about swapping picks is accurate, what do you think the Dolphins will do with their new #13 pick ?

Players will be off the board now that we all were hoping for and the Eagles will be drafting Hargreaves.

Which player do you think the Dolphins should draft at number 13 ?

    Reggie Ragland?
    Shaq Lawson?
    Ezekeil Elliot ?
    Ronnie Stanley?
    William Jackson?
    Kendall Fuller ?
    Eli Apple?
    Kevin Dodd?

yeah, i was wondering the same thing in 'the trade' thread..Hargreaves would almost definitely be gone, along with Miles Jack and a few others...I think i might lean towards either Mackensie Alexander, who many say could eventually be the best corner to come out of this draft or Ronnie Stanley...I guess we need to wait & see if we're able to land another player or two in FA before we can really gauge what direction we might go...

If all we had to do was swap first round picks then this is what I would do in the first 4 rounds.

            R1. DE Shaq Lawson

            R2. DB Kendall Fuller

            R3. OG Christian Westerman

            R4. FS Sean Davis

Shaq Lawson then Mackensie Alexander! Mackensie made me think of my childhood crush on Valerie Bertinelli!
Just frolic and live in the now like Dolphins and Man's best friend.

I don't want to take anything away from Alexander because he is a very good athlete. However, there is more to the fact that he had no college interceptions than lack of targets his way, especially since he played on a defense that constantly pressured the QB. He is quick and agile but he has lousy hands and rarely, if ever positions himself and commits to catching the ball. I recommend taking a real good look at William Jackson, the quick head snap to find the ball, the commitment to catch the ball and the ability to go up, high point the ball, make the catch and turn into a receiver going the other direction. I don't think Jackson is just better than Alexander. I think he is better than Ramsey, Hargreaves and every other DB in this draft and will be an interception machine in the NFL. Hargreaves and Alexander are defenders. Jackson is a ballhawk. Ramsey can be played at multiple positions, so will go first but William Jackson is the true shut down Corner of this draft. I've said we should go Stanley and I'll stick with that but William Jackson III would definitely get my heart pumping.

Jackson is awesome! I've been having him my mocks for months now and I have seen this guy fly up the draft boards higher and faster then just about anyone I have ever seen before. I can't even remember when Ibeas drafting him when Ivfirst started, possibly the 4th or 5th rounds and now he is a potential 1st round pick. Incredible!

I like Jackson ...here is a really good draft review for him

the downside is the competition he faced. I am not sure why you think he's going to be a ball hawk, as he had the most batted/swatted ball (21) in his college history. Great closing speed and solid and hip movement.
But I don't think he is a day 1 pick.

I would go after him in the 4th round.

Opposing teams wouldn't throw against Mack. Mack is the best cover CB in this draft. Eli would be second followed by Hargreaves. In Terms of press coverage, Apple, Mack and then Hargreaves.

I have Jackson as a 2nd round pick... he just didn't play anyone in JuCo and while at Houston. At 6-0 and 189lbs, he has good length and size. His speed at 4.37 in the 40 allows him to recover and make up for his slight build when he gets driven off by bigger receivers. He tends to bite on fakes, then have use his speed to make it up. He does have excellent ball tracking ability and hands though.

If we were drafting in the high 20s and desperate for a DB with Ramsey, Hargreaves, and Alexander gone, he'd be tempting.

There is no way Miami trades down, if they do this would be even a bigger mistake than drafting Dion and moving him to DE instead of taking what could have been an elite LB that can cover TE's....

On Finheaven they are already confirming sorta that we are trading down and gaining a 4th for Maxwell and Alonso.

I don't understand how this comes close to the biggest busts in NFL history. The Dolphins slide down a few slots, missing out on Hargreaves, but gaining a really good CB, a potentially great LB and a 4th round draft pick. There is a possibility that the Dolphins traded back a few spots and by doing so filled up THREE holes, depending on who they draft in the 4th round. They could draft a CB with the #13 pick who turns out to be better than Hargreaves.

                      Maxwell, 8 Int's in 5 years, pathetic....7.4 PDs a year, whoopie....

                      Alonso, average at best...

Both of these players aren't worth dropping down in the draft. This will be another time where we'll being saying, hey we could have have a great CB, but got two average Joe's instead.....

The only place I'm seeing this swap of 1st rounders is on this site. Every Dolphin Blogger is reporting a "later round draft pick or picks". If we actually did swap 1st rounders with them I'd be shocked if we're not getting more. At the very least we'd get their 4th round pick plus both players. Remember that Philly was DESPERATE to get out from last years Kelly deals. Maxwell was going to get paid by someone last year, turns out it was Philly. They would give him away for nothing to get out of that deal, so the real compensation piece here is Alonso and there is no way we'd value him enough to drop 5 spots without more picks coming our way.

Also for those who think Maxwell stinks, he was much better in a zone scheme. And while not a playmaker in terms of INT's, he has always been a solid cover guy who has a low completion % and QBR against him. Despite his struggles last season, he only allowed 2 TD's, both in the first game against Julio Jones. I personally think he'll be an upgrade over Grimes and certainly an upgrade over our #2 CB Taylor.

I would hope we wouldn't trade our 1st pick with Philly.

As far as Grimes goes, anyone that keeps his feet under him is a better corner.....

I don't think Maxwell stinks, just isn't anywhere near worth dropping in the draft as he's not a great CB, which is something we could have by not dropping....1.6 Ints per season, yea, no thanks I'll keep the pick....

But Miami is great at getting average Joe's and being happy at the bottom of the division, as the evidence has proven.....
