  • Sounds like trade is a done deal - Kiko and Maxwell

I'm seeing on Armando's twitter that the trade is done. Miami giving up draft compensation for Maxwell and Kiko Alonso from the Eagles. Am not hearing what Miami is giving up. If Maxwell can get back to his old ways when he played in a zone scheme for Seattle, I'd consider him an upgrade over Grimes for the same price (and younger). I love Alonso and if we got him for a 4th round pick or less I think this is a steal as well. It all depends on what Miami had to give up.

Man, I AM STOKED!!! I love the way this guy plays & only hope he gets back to where he was with Buffalo his rookie season before he blew his ACL..This guy is the REAL DEAL and when he hits you you freakin' know you've been hit! Whenever i used to watch him making tackles all over the field i used to think that we got the wrong DUCK when we took Dion Jordan!

It's a done deal; just waiting on physicals and the reworking of Maxwell's contract..

I'm a huge Alonso fan as well, though only if he's able to get back to where he was before he blew his ACL,, Byron Maxwell, not so much..We'll see, i guess...

Merged all the Kiko threads... lol...

Man, if Alonso can return to form, he was worth the trade all on his own.

Getting BOTH Maxwell and Alonso helps our defenses immensely.

I'm hearing we're taking the full 8 mil hit this year and restructuring 2017.
While it takes two to have an argument, it only takes one to walk away.

That would be a bit harsh, though i guess if we unload Grimes it's an even trade-off, salary cap wise...

Yes... Grimes was going ot make $8.7M. Instead we're going to give Maxwell $8.5 for this season. If he works out, we'll re-negotiate. Either way, Grimes was done and not worth and salary. Maxwell is in his prime.

Waiting for details on the entire deal... hoping we didn't give up anything much. Worried about draft picks being part of the deal.

Basically no change to the cap. I don't know what Kiko's cap # is, but we desperately need a MLB and he fits the bill and is still on his rookie deal. With a year off due to injury he's only got 2 seasons of tread wear. He could be good for many years to come for us. I'm optimistic Maxwell will look more like he did in Seattle than last year. He's a zone type guy, not a lock down CB. He'll fit VJ's defensive scheme well IMO. I wasn't a fan of getting rid of Grimes, but the fact is his wife is a huge distraction and his production doesn't warrant the salary he was going to make this season.

I don't think we're giving up much either because the Eagles were desperate to get rid of Maxwell. I'd be shocked if they get more than a 4th rounder for both of them.

Wonder if Misi will be upset if Kiko takes away his ''Always Injured" title?

Wonder who ends up in the Middle, Misi or Kiko? With Kiko having that same knee worked on twice, I'm worried about him in the middle.

Misi ends up on IR, Kiko gets played out of position and hopefully JJ doesn't regress any more than he did last season...

I think that was the initial trade proposal; Byron Maxwell to switch trade spots..Which was never gonna happen with Maxwell's huge contract and value of the Eagles moving up 5 spots..Then Alonso's name was thrown into the mix,, so at this point it's anyone's guess what the bottom line is gonna be as far as what picks are going where..

Unfortunately D, unless Kiko returns to his rookie form and Jelani returns to his form from 2 seasons ago, all we have are depth players..

I really hate text speak... some guy on twitter wrote that we traded with the Eagles ''4 draft picks'' instead of ''for draft picks''. The guy should have written ''involving'' draft picks as no one still knows what the details will end up being as of yet.

People are jumping off bridges and stabbing themselves in the face with forks and gnashing each other with the news of the trade.

Knee-jerk fan nation in full force.

It's either time to jump up and down OR it's time to scratch your head and think, "This is a new coaching staff and new general manager, right? So, why are we trading for players that are injury prone, AGAIN?"

I really hope that Maxwell's lack of production was a scheme issue and not an issue with him having to be surrounded by elite talent to play well. I also hope that Alonso's knee injury is the thing of the past. These two moves could be huge, one way or another. It's either going to be one of the better free agency moves they have made and it was a scheme fit issues and Alonso plays all 16 games, injury free. OR, it will be another Dolphin-esque Free Agency where it looks great 'on paper' but when reality sets in they have just shot themselves in the foot, again.

I have hope that these are great moves. Maxwell played great for Seattle and Alonso played great in college and looked good his rookie year. Let's hope everything works out and that this is just the beginning of things to come with this new coaching staff.

                    Go Dolphins !!!!!!!

I am holding my breath on this one. I like Maxwell (in a zone D) and REALLY REALLY REALLY like Alonso. If he comes back 100% this will be a great move. I'm waiting for the other shoe to fall though. What are we giving up. If it's trading firsts and gaining a third (as has been rumored), this might be my favorite Dolphins FA move in more years than I can remember.

Lots of question marks guys. Lots. But when you have such a horrible defense as we have, hard to complain when they start revamping the roster. Fingers crossed.
