  • What if we did draft Ezekiel Elliott?

I am not advocating for that but if Lamar Miller decides to leave in free agency then I would not discount the possibility. I have seen a few mock drafts lately that have the Dolphins selecting him. Elliott is a far superior RB to Miller so he would give our offense a boost. So if we don't resign Miller that would mean more money to spend on other positions in free agency. So here is a possibility of what we could do. Lets say we release Grimes and restructure Cameron's contract then we could potentially be around $30M under the salary cap. So here is what we could do.

    Free Agency

    OG Kelechi Osemele

    DB Janoris Jenkins

    DE Robert Ayers

    LB Jerrell Freeman

    Draft

R1. RB Ezekiel Elliott - OSU

R2. DB Kendall Fuller - VA Tech

R3. DE Carl Nassib - Penn St.

R4. FS Sean Davis - Maryland

R5. OG Connor McGovern - Mizzou

R6. DB Kevon Seymour - USC

R7. QB Brandon Allen - Arkansas

R7. LB Kyler Fackrell - Utah St.

I'd be galled... We have Ajayi and can find other RBs later in the draft if Miller leaves. Gase came from Denver, so I'm sure he'd be an advocate for finding backs latter in the draft and enhancing the OL rather.

If our defense wasn't so bad at CB and DE and LB, you might have a case IF he was the BPA and we also didn't have such terrible OL play. We were historically bad against the pass this past season and our OL woes have waxed on for almost a decade now.

Ramsey, Hargreaves, Jack, Stanley, ALL have a higher grade than E2. I'd rather go with Stanley at LT and move Albert to LG than draft a RB in the 1st.

Fackrell will be gone before the 7th. I do like Fuller and Nassib where you have them.

I love your 7th round pick! I've been on the Brandon Allen bandwagon for quite some time now. I like the players you drafted and picked up in free agency, but I would be worried about our secondary, and I would be really worried about our linebacking corps............or would it be corpses?

I just want to state that the unproven soon to be rookie Elliott is NOT "far superior" than Miller. JMO

Yes I know you like Allen. I do think he has potential at least as a quality backup. I think a starting DB tandem of Jenkins and Fuller if he is healthy would be better than what we have now. We already restructured Misi so if we add Freeman who had a good year for the Colts last year as our MLB and we already have Jenkins thats not a bad starting trio of LB's.

There is a reason that Miller was a 4th round pick and Elliott is going to be a first round pick.

As i've stated in a previous thread on this subject, i really like Zeke and do think he's gonna be a really good back...BUT IMO we'd be absolutely freakin' nuts to draft a RB @ #8 overall with the amount of holes we have on this roster currently.

To me, RB's should never go in the top 5-10 picks unless we're talking about once a decade backs like A.P., maybe even a Todd Gurley. These guys have the potential to score every time they touch the ball, i think Zeke is rated as high as he is b/c he does a lot of things really good, but IMO isn't great at any one thing and i'm not sure he's gonna be a gamechanging superstar at the next level...

Agreed... and neither AP nor Gurley have had the impact to outweigh us taking a defender or even an OLman in the 1st round of this draft IMO.

Unfortunately, with practically our whole D & our O-Line being in such dire straits (Great band!!!) we'd probably have to pass if the second coming of Walter Payton was sitting there at 8...
