  • Mario Williams to Fins ?

    Ian Rapoport
    ‎@RapSheet

Mario Williams is heading on a visit to Miami today, per source informed of the #Dolphins plans. Would add big-time help on the edge.

So either Wake or Vernon is gone. This dude likes the money. Just seems weird that OL isn't #1 or maybe Ross wants a STAR for FA again? Strange...

This has Tannenbaum's name written all over it. Mario Williams would be his 2016 'big name' signee this offseason. The rest of the NFL fans make fun of the Dolphins for "Always winning in the offseason but never in the regular season." Williams could be a great pikcup, unless they overpay for him. I am not a fan of OV and I heard that Wake doesn't want to restructure so IF that is true, maybe they are both going to be hitting the bricks soon.

Sorry Hawk, didn't see your post & posted the same thing a couple minutes after you...I'm assuming this is a CYA Insurance move and the Fins would hope to sign Williams at a team friendly deal covering themselves if/when OV leaves via FA...

OR...........Mario Williams is going to USE the Dolphins to get the big payday somewhere else. It's part of the 'game' but it still pisses me off when players do that. I hope that is not the case.

Yup,, that's the usual Modus Operandi when it comes to FA's & the Fins...That's okay though b/c i definitely don't want them giving Mario, who doesn't seem to be that Super anymore, a ridiculous contract...

It definitely was exactly that back in the Jeff Ireland days but hopefully things are changing in Miami. I noticed lately that fewer players are using the Dolphins the way that they used to. All I have to say on this topic is this, I just hope Tannenbaum isn't trying to impress anyone with a big contract signing with Williams. He is older and his lack of production last season could have been because of a scheme problem, or it could have been his age or laziness. I'm sure he could be signed to a friendly deal that won't break the bank. No Big Contracts and No One Year Deals. That's all I'm saying.............

I brought the idea up of signing him a few days ago on another post. If we don't have to give him some outrageous deal then I think it would make sense. I brought up the idea of a 2 year $10M deal and many seem to think he won't sign for such a small deal as that. I don't think anybody is going to give him a huge deal. I think a 2 year deal would be ideal since he would then think of this as his new home and he would only be 33 years old when the deal is over. He should have a couple good years left in him. I would be willing to increase the amount we pay him slightly maybe to $7M per so 2 years for $14M.

Now I am starting to lean towards just letting Wake play out the final year of his contract even though he does have a high cap number $9.8M I believe. Resign Shelby or draft a DE in the middle rounds and we should be set with Williams and Wake as the starters and Fede and either Shelby or a rookie DE joining the rotation. With Wake's salary coming off the books after next year. Let OV walk and we can use some of that money on Williams and other free agents.

PLEASE....................not another player visiting the Dolphins just to get more money out of the Giants!!

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports free agent DE Mario Williams is visiting the Dolphins on Saturday.
With transition-tagged DE Olivier Vernon able to flirt with other teams and Cameron Wake's future with the organization in question, the Dolphins are smart to explore their options at defensive end. Williams is just a year removed from a First-Team All-Pro season and would be a great fit in Miami's 4-3 scheme. Williams is also expected to receive interest from the Giants.
