  • Dolphins Looking At Geoff Schwartz

Bleacher Report's Jason Cole passes along "mutual interest" between the Dolphins and free agent G/T Geoff Schwartz.

Although Schwartz has some experience at tackle, he would almost certainly play guard for Miami, which has struggled on the interior line for the past several seasons.

Schwartz is a good lineman who's been set back by bad luck. The 29-year-old finished last season on injured reserve with a fractured ankle.

Schwartz finished 2015 with a plus-7.8 overall grade, according to Pro Football Focus. PFF also ranked him higher in run blocking compared to his pass-protection abilities, which could be an asset given how much the 49ers struggled there last season.

The 29-year-old lineman had problems with injuries over his two seasons with the Giants. He appeared in just two games with New York back in 2014 and was limited to 11 last year. But Schwartz does have the flexibility to occupy either a guard or tackle slot. He’s played both at the NFL level.

Schwartz was slated to earn $4.9 million in each of the next two seasons with the Giants, per Over The Cap. That number will likely drop a bit given his injury history, but how much remains to be seen.

This doesn't excite me too much. He reminds me of Shelly Smith and Daryn Colledge. We need significant upgrades at both OG positions.

The injuries are not a good thing to have in a potential free agent. Hopefully if they sign him it's a cheap contract and for depth purposes. The Dolphins don't need another hobbled offensive lineman.
