  • Some LB 40 times

Darron Lee - 4.47 Thats the fastest of any LB at the combine. He has been projected as a late first round pick and I have seen some mocks that have him moving up into the middle of the first round. He projects more as a WLB the position that Jelani Jenkins plays for us. If he can play the SAM LB position then he could be of interest to us if we trade down in the first round.

Deion Jones - 4.59 He is a player I have been intrigued with since his stellar Senior Bowl. He has been projected as a 3rd round pick. He has very good coverage skills. He is someone who I would consider in the 3rd round.

Joshua Perry - 4.68 He projects as a 3rd round pick. He has tremendous size at 6'4 254. He is a 4-3 SAM LB. With his size I wonder if he could also play MLB. I would take him in the 3rd round if he is available.

Reggie Ragland - 4.72 Thats about what was expected from him. He probably plays a little faster than his 40 time. If we trade down into the middle portion of the first round I would definitely be interested in him.

Nick Vigil - 4.71 Zach Vigil's brother? He is projected as a 4th or 5th round pick. He could be an interesting option there for us.

Blake Martinez - 4.71 Thats faster than what was expected from him which might cause him to rise up draft boards. He might now be a solid 4th round prospect.

Travis Feeney - 4.50 I don't know much about him but at 6'4 230 with that kind of speed he will get some attention.

Kentrell Brothers - 4.89 Thats a very disappointing time for someone who was considered a 2nd or 3rd round prospect. That might cause him to drop into the lower portion of the 3rd or into the 4th round.

Kyler Fackrell - 4.72 Thats impressive speed for someone who is 6'5 245. He could be an intriguing MLB prospect in the later rounds.

Scooby Wright - 4.90 Thats a very disappointing time for someone considered to be a 2nd or 3rd round pick. Combine that with his injury history and he might drop into the later rounds.

A LB who I did not list above is Stephen Weatherly from Vanderbilt. He is an OLB and he recorded 45 tackles 9.5 TFL and 3.5 sacks. At the combine he measured 6'4 267 he ran a 4.61 40 he tied for 3rd in the bench with 23 reps and he has long arms measuring 34.5.

I haven't heard much about him as a prospect but with his excellent measurables for the NFL he might be someone to look for in the later rounds. With his size he projects more as a 4-3 SAM LB and his athleticism he could be what Dion Jordan was supposed to be.

Blake Martinez in the 4th would be awesome.

I really REALLY like Martinez. Scooby Wright is a guy I'd love to have seen in Aqua....but that 40 time is concerning. I've watched him play several times though. He's everywhere the ball is all day. I saw an article recently comparing him to Zach Thomas and I laughed. I had been saying that for a year....

Scooby I can live with as long as we don't reach.

I agree, if we don't address MLB in free agency or earlier in the draft then Blake Martinez in the 4th round would be good.

Personally, i think 40 times for LB's are highly over-rated, actually i think 40 times in shorts & t-shirts are pretty much useless for every position unless the guy's so slow you measure his time with a calendar instead of a stopwatch..Quickness, explosiveness, strength, instinct & maybe the ability to shed blocks are way more important than the 40 yard dash...

Thanks for posting, FTL... not sold on Darron Lee as a high draft pick, nor impressed with his time as he's a little guy.

Lee is 6-1 (maybe) and somewhere around 220. I've seen his weight listed as low as 218 and as high as 230. That's small for a LB at this level. I like Deion Jones a lot, but he's the same. If they have the frame to fill out and get bigger, that's one thing, but the times by themselves have to be put into perspective.

I'm much more interested in guys like Leonard, Floyd, Josh Perry or Kyler Fackrell. Ragland is a 2nd rounder IMO, as I don't think he's as good as CJ Mosely was, and CJ was a mid 1st pick.

I'm getting a man crush on Perry....6'4 and one of the best 40 times....i like it.

He can possibly run with any TE but would be a mismatch against the RB...but you never put a Mike on RB who is running a wheel.

Scoop on Ragland was that he dropped 12 lbs to get a faster 40 time... that means he's actually slower at his regular weight.
