Dolphins Signings

The Dolphins announced the signings of cornerback Chimdi Chekwa and wide receiver A.J. Cruz on Friday.

Chekwa, 27, was a fourth-round pick of the Raiders in 2011 who’s also spent time with the Patriots. He was cut by the Raiders before last season began but has played in 32 career games, starting four.

Cruz, 24, has played the last two seasons in the Arena League. He went to camp with the Bears last year and was among the final cuts.

He figures to get a shot to return kicks with the Dolphins.

I have read that Cruz is a good return specialist which is the main reason we signed him so Landry doesn't have to do that anymore. Chekwa is going to compete for a roster spot as the 4th or 5th corner.

I am not a fan of using key offensive players as returnmen. There is just too much risk involved. I would prefer to have a #3 or #4 receiver man those duties. Hopefully Cruz is a good one. I don't know anything about him and I haven't looked him up yet.
