  • Dolphins Cut Coples & Brice McCain

The Dolphins released cornerback Brice McCain and defensive end Quinton CoplesFriday.

McCain lasted one season in Miami after a big year with the Steelers in 2014 helped him land $3 million in guarantees from the Dolphins on the open market.

McCain, 29, was due to make $2.5 million in 2016. He finished 2015 with one interception, 10 pass breakups and 31 tackles in 11 starts.

Coples was claimed off waivers from the Jets last November. He played in six games for the Dolphins without recording any stats.

A first-round pick of the Jets in 2012, Coples has 16.5 career sacks but had none last season.

I am hoping they will re-sign Coples for a more friendly price.

I was happy to see McCain gone but not Coples. The Dolphins linebacking corps is a joke. I am hoping they will re-sign Coples to a lower price, and I expect them to draft a cornerback early in the draft. (Hopefully they will pick one up in FA too)

It was pretty much a foregone conclusion that Coples would be released because they had to pick up his contract when they signed him off waivers...I'd think the plan would be to try and resign him to as you said a more team friendly deal..

Happy as hell Brice McCain was McCanned,, he was god-awful!!!

Completely agree on both accounts... Brice was a slot corner. They played him outside out of necessity as Jamar Taylor's play was so terrible itself and he couldn't stay healthy.

I'm fully expecting Coples to be re-signed.

Bills are expected to cut Mario Williams as well. He should get a strong look as Joseph is familiar with him from their Houston days...

Question would be what is Williams willing to play for at age 31? Nobody is going to pay him 16 million a year. I have absolutely no idea what he is worth right now. I don't know if Joseph and Williams got along. I don't know if the tax free state of Florida could help with landing a player like Williams. We shall see...........

Pretty sure (Cap-wise) we couldn't afford Mario, especially with Suh's contract taking up so much $$...Knowing our luck he ends up with either the Jets or the Pats...

I think the smart move would have been to keep McCain and play him in the slot where his talent lies. He was forced to play outside last year because the rest of our Cornerbacks all sucked.

Coples isn't worth 25% of that salary - but if he wants to come back at a bargain price with big incentives, he's worth rolling the dice on.

Agree on McCain I would have liked to have kept him. Maybe sign him to a lower offer sheet.

Could be right, i know for the most part he was playing outta position..but he played so poorly that it IMO warrants the decision..They may elect to bring him back at less $$ if they feel he's a fit @ slot in Joseph's system...
