  • Grimes vs Johnson

    Brent Grimes | Defensive Back | #21

    Team: Miami Dolphins
    Age / DOB: (32) / 7/19/1983
    Ht / Wt: 5'10' / 185
    College: Shippensburg

Grimes is going to be 33 years old this season. He is only about 5'8" - 5'9" tall. His wife is a locker room distraction and his salary is one of the highest on the team.

    Trumaine Johnson | Defensive Back | #22

    Team: Los Angeles Rams
    Age / DOB: (26) / 1/1/1990
    Ht / Wt: 6'2' / 208
    College: Montana
    Drafted: 2012 / Rd. 3 (65) / LAR

Johnson is only 26 years old and he just turned 26 too. He is about 6 inches taller then Grimes. He played at a higher level then Grimes and Johnson is only in his 5th year this season. I know some may think he will be asking for a lot of money but I doubt that money will be more then what the Dolphins are already paying Grimes. Wouldn't it make sense to trade Grimes and sign Johnson since he is 7 years younger, 6 inches taller and doesn't have a crazy wife distracting the locker room and he might even be saving the Dolphins money, especially this season.

Johnson by a long mile! Grimes is not what he was 2 years ago and his wife sucks. I would also sign Weddle.

The best Grimes did all year was make a commercial for those little plastic green army men, because every time I saw him he was on the ground playing with them....

I'd prefer Johnson, but while Grimes had a rough year and his wife is a total classless skank, he was hampered by injuries and forced to cover the other teams #1 receiver all season. I'd like to restructure his contract and bring him back, but if we can cut some others and restructure some contracts, I'd love to sign a much younger stud.

Grimes wife should not enter into the conversation. It is about his play and age which are both against him. IMO, he can no longer cover another team's best, and it was proven last year. If moved he will save $18M over the next two years on the cap. That money could be much better spent on someone younger and better.

This should not even be a question for this young team.

Normally, I'd agree about wives, however it was reported that the coaches, players, and FO ALL talked to Grimes about his wife's behavior (including drunken arrest at a game), and her public comments and battles with fans and media. She very much will shape their feelings and opinion about him when they are deciding whether to bring him back or not.

Can't just cut him without having someone else lined up. Give me a better option... and even if can't cover a #1, he's still make a very good #2 or slot DB...

          YMMV.

As I pointed out in the original thread, I believe that going after Johnson over Grimes is a no-brainer. Johnson is playing at a higher level then Grimes currently is as Johnson is on his way UP and Grimes is on his way OUT. They would more then likely cancel each other out financially so this should not be a hard decision for the front office. The Dolphins are a young team so why not have a YOUNG cornerback who can cover the opponents #1 receiver? I think Johnson ranked in the top 5 CB's according to PFF. When you take all that into consideration and couple it with the fact that Johnson is 7 years younger and is 6 inches taller then Grimes, there really should not be anything to think about. Make this happen ASAP!!

**Normally a players wife does NOT factor into the equation but in Grimes' case it most certainly does. When a player on ANY team is telling his wife things "in confidence" that are supposed to be kept IN HOUSE, and that players wife is taking to Social Media and spreading those secrets around for the world to read, and causing distractions in the locker room, that player and his wife are definitely part of the equation. I don't blame Grimes' wife, I blame Brent Grimes for anything she says. He should shut his little mouth and stop giving his wife ammunition to use on Social Media, period. I think the Dolphins should try and trade him or cut him loose because his wife won't let him restructure his contract.**
