  • Thoughts on Tannebbaum's First Year?

Tannenbaum was hired as our "Czar" in Feb. of 2015 but was a "consultant" from Aug of the year before. I have to believe that he was making all the final decisions on what was done in last year's off season. Here's the run down on what he did.

    Free Agency

    Suh
    Cameron
    Jennings
    Brice McCain
    M Moore
    Delmas

    Likenbach
    McClendon
    Paysinger
    Le Mike James

    Draft Top Picks

    Parker
    Phillips
    Douglas

    Other Deals

    Extended Pouncey
    Extended Tannenhill
    Traded for Stills
    $10M left in the bank

So, how do you think he is doing so far?

    You forgot signing Coples... lol...

Biggest gaff of last off-season was not doing more with the Linebackers, OL, and safety positions.

I'm still neutral in this as I think he'll be better this go around than he was as the GM of the stej... he started last Feb/Mar after things were already underway with Hickey and Philbin making most of the roster decisions. This time it's Tbaum and Grier. Let's see how they do...

No way am I buying that. It was not official until Feb 1 but he was Ross's consultant from Aug of the year before. I firmly believe he made all the choices last year.

Thanks for adding Coples, and I also forgot the Lions DT we added, whose name escapes me. LOL

Tannenbaum was hired on to implement a sports science and analytic department and to be the sports performance director in 2014. When he was promoted to VPO last Feb, he named Wayne Diesel to that role.

Prior to Tannenbaum coming on-board, Ross had advisors consisting of Carl Peterson, Joe Philbin, Eric Mangini, Jeff Ireland, and Bill Parcells. Parcells was hired by Wayne H. He bailed after Ross bought the team and from the way Ross has handled the team, it looks like a brilliant move by Parcells to gtfo... lol...

Anyway, back on topic - Tannenbaum had meetings with Ross prior to Ross extending Philbin, where Tannenbaum was acting as the agent for Dan Quinn and from reports, encouraged Ross to fire Philbin and hire Dan Quinn. Instead, Ross restructured the FO and chain of command and gave Philbin more power. Ireland resigned and walked away and Philbin hired his own man, Dennis Hickey in 2014 to be the GM and run the draft. 2014 was no improvement on the overall team and the 2 sole bright spots were the improved play of Tannehill and Miller. Then 2015 was Joe Philbin's curtain call finally coming after a disastrous start in what was the easiest first half schedule we've had in years.

I totally get why people want to blame Tannenbaum for everything, but that simply isn't the case. It's not like he walked into a perennial playoff team and turned us into a 6-10 joke with his own hand picked players. This was Joe's team and Joe's roster and the results were on Joe fkn Philbin IMO.

Suh and Jordan Cameron were HUGE scores in the off-season. But as was the case each and every season under Philbin - their talent was largely wasted, as once again, he, nor Lazor, nor Coyles, were putting these guys in positions where they could excel. Instead, under Philbin, it was always about ''scheme fit''. Joe wanted a pass first philosophy, so Miller was limited in carries and Tannehill was forced to pass constantly, and consequentially, take a damned beating behind Joe's chosen OL, as he was a former and now current OL guru.

We can blame Ross, Tbaum, or even the position of the Moon, but this off season with be the first complete off-season under Tannebaum and now with Grier as as the GM. Hopefully, we'll have the FO and the coaching staff all on the same page and working in unison.

Right now, I'm neutral on him as there simply isn't enough items you can lay at his feet and say it's all his fault. Let's revisit this time next year... lol...

BTW, I'm expecting a 9 win season in 2016. Simply too much talent that was poorly used and too many bad decisions last year. Couple OLmen, couple LBs and DBs, and we should be set, especially if Joseph is the stud DC he is expected to be.

          YMMV.

I would give Tannenbaum a grade of a D for his first season with the Dolphins. He didn't address our weaknesses and we got worse.

My thoughts are that Philbin and Hickey were allowed their opportunity to prove themselves this season and they failed to do so, so they were fired. IMO, the results would have been the same regardless of who was named VPO/Czar as these guys were still only reporting to Ross until Philbin was fired.

Tbaum is clearly running the FO now and Aponte, Grier and Gase are now reporting to him instead of Ross.

Tannenbaum took Jets back to back. Now granted they didn't go to the dance but that in itself beats us the last 15 years. Give him time.
Just frolic and live in the now like Dolphins and Man's best friend.

Tannenbaum already trying to restructure Suh deal. Let's keep an on eye on this one. I just don't trust the guy to get this right. How far out are we going to extend him and how much are we going to be on the hook for when Tannenbaum is gone? I'm not confident in the Gase move, especially since it's tied to the QB. Don't like the moves with the coordinators when more qualified men were out there. If it works, he's a genius. If all of these fail, as I suspect, nothing changes. We remain the doormats of the AFC East, the players still get their big ass checks, Ross still gets his equal NFL cut and we're still a bunch of idiots that waste our time and energy expecting something different each year.
