  • Cancelling my season tickets, enough is enough

here is the letter I sent to my ticket rep to cancel my tickets.
    Dear Sean,

After much thought and consideration I have decided not to renew my season tickets this year. I have been a fan since I was seven years old as well as a season ticket holder for many years. I have given my support financially and most of all EMOTIONALLY. Before I was local to South Florida I lived in the Tampa area and I used to commute to the games every week. I made a large effort to attend the games as I loved doing so. My loyalty and love for the Miami Dolphins can never be questioned by anyone. It has been a rough trip with this team since the 62-7 playoff loss to Jacksonville and Dan Marino’s retirement. The team has been in a constant spiral downward since then.

I do not like the direction that the team is going in, since 2004 we have had eight head coaches (counting interims). Not one has had NFL head coaching experience, they have all been rookies with training wheels learning on the job. I honestly thought this year would have been different, I really thought we would finally leave MALFUNCTION JUNCTION and start to rise again. Adam Gase might be a good coach, but again, on the job training with no NFL head coaching experience. Joe Philbin had the worse coaching staff in the league with the exception of Rizzi, and Campbell and yet, we kept seven of is coaching staff. I know they are looking for a YOUNG Don Shula, and truthfully, there is no other Don Shula and never will be, there will never be another Bill Parcels, Bill Bellichick or Jimmy Johnson, I assume you know what I am getting at. We never do anything right, we needed to blow it up and start over 100% fresh, but alas we do the same thing, Parcels leaves, we keep Ireland and Sparano, then we fire Sparano and keep Ireland and bring on Philbin, then the power struggle begins, Dawn Aponte and Philbin gang up on Ireland and we fire him. We hire Dennis Hickey (probably the 6th choice out of all the GM candidates… no one wanted the job because they were forced to keep the coach) and not let him bring in his own coach. It’s never done completely, it’s always half assed. And then we bring on the true MASTER OF DISASTER….. Mike Tannenbaum, he ran the Jets into the ground and he is already making his imprint here. There were plenty of opportunities to hire a capable GM or VP of football operations (Alonzo Highsmith would have been perfect) but that will never happen as long as we keep people from past regimes or let people have control of matters that are not their expertise. I know Tannenbaum some good qualifications but personnel is not one of them. Add all of this with my tickets going up $300 this year, that’s enough for me.

INSANITY – doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results.

    Sincerely,

    Jeffrey R Theisler

Completely understand... especially with as expensive as these seats are... so how are you going to spend that extra $3K?

(If you're married, no need to say anything more about the spending) JK... lol...

Great letter. It would be great if ALL the season ticket holders did the exact same thing. I have been stating this for months, that if Ross didn't do a COMPLETE rebuild that it would never work. Well, he didn't do it, again, and hired an inexperienced coach because of Tannenbaum, much like how he had to settle on Philbin because of Ireland. NINE coaches from a horrific Dolphins team were able to retain their jobs? Why?!? That is what you get when you hire inexperienced coaches, they can't assemble a quality coaching staff.

I don't like on the east coast so my preemptive strike was not as big. I called Directv last night and cancelled my Sunday Ticket renewal AND for the first time ever, I downgraded my package so I don't have the NFL Network anymore. Ross has ruined the Miami Dolphins for me and he is ruining football too. Without hope we are nothing and as long as Ross is the teams owner we as fans have absolutely no hope of having our favorite team ever being competitive again. I am still in amazement that he uttered the words ,"Super Bowl" when talking about the Dolphins. Ross is delusional if he thinks PARTIAL rebuilds will ever work.

Awesome letter jrt; very well said, only wish someone who mattered would get about 40,000 more of these and would actually take the time to read them! Somehow i don't think your ticket rep Sean qualifies as someone who matters, nor someone who cares...

I know that sean isn't anyone of authority, but I don't know how to get it to anyone who has authority.

yeah i know, hope you don't think i was dogging you..i'm just saying that such a well thought-out letter that kind of exemplfies how pretty much the whole fanbase feels will be just filed away in the circular file, possibly without even being read...

I canceled my season tickets after the 2006 season as it was costing me 7 thousand dollars a year with the travel, hotel, ticket cost, etc. I haven't bought a single hat or jersey or anything else in probably the last 5 years, My only hold out so far to date is my NFL Sunday ticket and this year that is still up for debate. I know exactly how you feel.
While it takes two to have an argument, it only takes one to walk away.

I like the Sunday ticket, pick a few games to watch and find the one that's a good game....

I always, when at home, watch or record the Fin's game.....hey but I'm thinking about getting into self-flagellation, seems like a lighter punishment than watching the Fins....
