  • Dolphins Direction for 2016?

This is the biggest question facing our team. The options seem simple. We can to make this year's team the best it can be or, look to next year and the future. What to do?

Ross was quoted in saying that we are closer than many think. Guess he missed out on watching this year's 6-10 team, aging and injured stars, and counting in new coaches and schemes. I'm not buying that but, it would appear that he somehow thinks Tannenbaum will turn things around this year.

I would like to see our team move on from Grimes, Wake, and Albert and get or keep younger and potentially better building blocks to have a chance of being a legit playoff team next year or the year after.

What would you like to do, and what do you think the team will do?

There are just sooo many holes in this team that I think a one year turn around is damn near impossible. As far as vets, while I see your point, I think it would benefit us to try and re-structure them for the sake of depth if for no other reason. Albert could move to LG and be a back up tackle, Wake could be a 3rd down pass rusher, and Grimes could be a decent nickel corner. my 2 cents.
While it takes two to have an argument, it only takes one to walk away.

Half measure are what we have done for years, and chances are we will do the same with the same results.

My only concern is that we already have too many holes to fill without creating even more holes. Fill some of the existing holes this year and we can re-examine filling those holes next year. We are not going to the Super Bowl in any great hurry anyway.

Ross is an idiot,, or maybe he just hopes we buy into the shit he's shoveling...There's absolutely no way this team is anywhere near close to contending; i mean IMO, the best we can hope for this season is to just put out the fire of this raging dumpster fire..

As Joe just pointed out, this team has dealt so long in half-measures it's no small wonder we find ourselves in this mess; our umpteenth regime change in the last 10 years, a few aging stars who have either already declined to the point they look like shit (Grimes) or are always injured (Albert) or may or may not have another great year in them (Wake) and either way, doesn't do us any good because we're looking at bare-minimum a 2 to 3 year turnaround...I say let's finally face reality and do a complete rebuild; keep the few players who should be part of the future, get rid of all of the dead weight, make a trade or two if there are any takers..and then take whats left & try to build from the ground up.

Move Grimes for a younger FA, and there are options. Move Wake for OV. Move Albert for KO at G and or LT while grooming a young guy. No additional holes, just younger players not creating them in the very near future.

Okay, we are couple of Guards, a Mike linebacker and a safety and CB plus a DE away from contending. Thts six players and I think we are in contention. We just need to hit draft picks 1,2,3 of which we are picking high in the draft plus 3 hits in FA! Very possibl.
Just frolic and live in the now like Dolphins and Man's best friend.

Actually i'd say we've got a LT who's ALWAYS hurt, so we need at the bare minimum, a quality backup Tackle (We all saw what happened when we relied on Fox!!!) we obviously need 2 Guards (even if Dallas Thomas continued to improve, we'd need 2 minimum), we need a RB (whether it's resigning Miller or going after another back, not sure we're ready to turn over the reins to Ajayi), we need a competent QB (If it's Tannehill, that's cool..But there has to be a solid QB behind center) we need DeVante to stay healthy & to step into the #1 WR role, we need 2 pass-rushing DE's (OV, Wake, who knows??), we need a DT to step up next to Suh (JPhillips??) we need 2-3 solid LB's (One needs to be a playmaker!!!), we need at least 2 solid CB's, a FS & maybe a punt & kick returner...Oh yeah, we need some quality depth across the board. Did i miss anything?! Good news is i think we're set at both kicker spots!

Hehehe you're right a little more than I described and I know people are down on Tannenbaum. This will be The first year for him and meeting of the minds buddy Grier so no more Hickey small school potentials. I did like Hickeys 1/2 picks the last 2 years. Just hoping to improve on latter picks.

I think an organic re-build is exactly that this team needs.

There are too many players here are that are left over from the previous regimen. It's time to cut players and start brand new.

Grimes - Not worth the 8 million
Wake - We should let him go. He deserves to play of a team that will make the playoffs.
OV - not worth the $
Albert - No worth the injury bug
                Delmas - same as Albert
                Cameron - Not worth it
Misi - Not sure he's a fit anymore

This would free up cap space and allow the new front office to bring in Gase type of players. The only exception I would make is to re-sign Miller. Miller is the Ronnie Hillman to this attack. By releasing all the player mentioned above, and re-structuring Tanny and Suh, we are around 54 million cap space plateau.

Next steps, is to fill the voids with players that fit our new scheme.

                CB, G, LB and DE

CB - Lippett and McCain will be the only two hold over. I think this is a position you build via FA. Leon Hall and TJ
G - you can keep Dallas and Billy as they are still on rookie contracts and very cheap against the cap. I would once again look for FA to build - Mathis and KG from Balt
LB - I like the youth we have. Jenkins and Levit will be here next year. Bring in a veteran or keep building via the draft
DE - Shaq Lawson looks like the best pick for our team at the 8th spot, if we build CB via FA.

We are not going to the Super bowl next year...we should think about building our talent. If Jaylon Smith is there in the 2nd round you TAKE him, as you are building for the future. If Tanny doesn't fit the system in 2016 with Gase, then you trade him before the 2017 season starts.

The realistic overview is that the Dolphins are back at stage 1 in the re-building era. Gase didn't inherit a team like Denver that was just a coaching philosophy away....it all about being organic and building from the roots.

                Just my two cents

                -d-

I would draft a LT round one (preferably after a trade back) and sign the best RG in free agency. I'd re-sign Miiller, keep J Cameron and let OV go. I'd draft defense rounds 2-7. I'd play call the offense at a 2-1 run to pass ratio regardless of score or down and distance. QB never seems to know the down and distance anyway. I think they will do anything but this which should put us in prime position to snag a top two QB in the 2017 draft, which I would do.
