  • Best Dolphin CB and Best LB this year, Seadoggy Award

I know I'll catch heck for this, but I thought #24 McCain was by far the best CB we had playing this year, I remember the first Jets game, Grimes was getting torched until he limped off the field, cough, cough...Miko please make up an excuse for me....But all I saw after that was #24 doing a pretty good job, and I've noticed it throughout the year, when there's a good play, #24 is the guy...

As far as LB, Hewitt, when he was in, did more to impress me than the LB group as a whole has done all year....including wiffel ball tackler Jenkins....

JMO, that's how I saw it....we put out some pretty good young players....Parker, Phillips, you know the guy who had our only sack but was benched because ...I can't remember but it was something stupid....How many times did he bat a ball down???

Hm-m-m, i thought Brice McCain was terrible and was constantly screaming "Get #24 out of there!!!" But with as bad as our whole secondary (other than R. 'I WAS SCREWED out of the Pro Bowl' Jones) was, from Grimes to Jamar Taylor, Walt Aikens & everything in between..i guess everything is relative. Maybe Brice started looking better because everyone else ws looking so bad!

Hewitt was always my darkhorse candidate to make the team, i like him and was glad to see he got some snaps late in the year (I didn't get to see him play because i stopped going to the pub & ruining my Sunday's a while back!)

I thought CB Bobby McCain was looking a bit promising before suffering that bad concussion...

No offense to you or your award but in my opinion both awards should be driven down to the swamp lands and thrown into it to never be seen again because nobody but Reshad Jones should get any type of award this season as far as the defense is concerned. JMO

Jones did well, but as well as he did he wiffed many tackles and was out of position many times, but yes, in the secondary Jones was the best

I know there's not a lot of good plays to remember our secondary from because most of the plays there was no one even around, maybe it's just me and I just imagined #24 playing better than the rest of them.....

I think most of us has a 12er in us by halftime so we don't recall too much that happened this season.

Are you dyslexic? Maybe it was #42 you were thinking of...

Maybe, but I don't remember Paysinger very well....but just because I feel ornery today, I also thought Stoneburner was our best TE

Okay, be honest...............if you were to put Stoneburner on the Packers and Cameron on the Saints who would have the better season?

Cameron, but if you were to put Stoneburner on the Saints and Cameron on the Packers, Stoneburner, cause I don't think AR will be alive unless they fix their OL problems....

I like Jenkins but cant stay healthy so my pick for the best l.b this year is Sheppard he started off the season slow but got better as the season went on ....... and was second on the team in tackles
as for as corner back hmmm throw the names in a bucket and pick one,it was not a good year for the dolphins so on that my pick is a future star Tony Lippett

          Lippett does show promise.

I think Jenkins is our only "starter quality" linebacker just now - but both Hewitt and Vigil showed ability (Hewitt especially in week 17). I think Misi would be great for depth - since he can play inside or out. I'd just rather have a better player than him at both positions. I expected more from McCain this year, but it didn't happen. Sheppard was just a guy to me. Decent leadership qualities - but fair at best instincts and just not able to take advantage of what Suh provided in the middle. A dominant MLB would go a LONG way to improving this D.

With Grimes aging (and in decline?) we are abysmal at CB. I had hopes for Bobby McCain, but he played like a mid round rookie with some skill. The Jamar Taylor experiment can be officially deemed a bust. Lippett? Incredibly raw....maybe in time. Brice McCain really should have been slot CB. He was alright there...but exposed on the border. I think we should be targeting a Corner in the draft and possibly FA also. I think we need 2 (and a safety).

I wish they had played Hewitt much more, would have helped him and possibly the team for this next season...

As far as CB's, this area is terrible, even at the bottom of they last bottom barrel there is still someone that stands out.....

I agree with you that Jenkins is the Dolphins only linebacker who looks closest to being a starter. I think the Dolphins really need to restructure Misi's contract. I was baffled as to why the Dolphins would give an unknown, unproved linebacker a contract like the one they gave him. Maybe a pay decrease will inspire him to play harder and/or train harder but either way he is making way too much money for the caliber of play that he gives on game day. I am not saying he isn't giving 100% but if he is, it's not enough for the amount of money he is making. I know there were a couple people who "thought" Jamar Taylor was good enough and would turn that corner this year, but in my opinion those people are wrong. Lippett? I think he is playing out of position. I've seen him play wide receiver and I don't understand why they are trying to force a square peg in a round hole. (7 starts at corner doesn't mean he will make it as one in the NFL) He's a really good wide receiver and if the Dolphins lose Matthews, which they probably will, I feel that Lippett can step up and take over his spot without missing a beat. I would love to see the Dolphins pick up 2 LB's and 2 CB's in the offseason, at minimum.

Brice McCain was terrible as was Jamar Taylor. As DP pointed out, Bobby McCain was playing well before the concussion. Hoping he can come back and play at a high level next season. Jamar and Brice are both little more than depth. Brice is better in the slot, but not on the perimeter.

Something to bear in mind is that A - Grimes was covering the other teams #1 receiver and some of those guys had 6" and 30lbs on him, and B - he was playing on a gimpy knee for most of the season. Regardless of his issues covering big receivers, he was still our best CB.

As for LB, Misi was our best on the season. Sheppard was a dumpster fire and none of the rookies did shat. Jenkins fought leg injuries all season. Hewitt flashed, but it was late in the season and really only the last couple games.

        YMMV.

My bad, I must have missed the game Grimes actually covered anyone....Only thing I saw Grimes doing was falling on the ground playing with those little plastic army men in the grass.....

He definitely had a down year, but he was still our best cornerback. The others struggled against 2s, 3s, and 4s. Brice and Jamar Taylor were equally bad.

That's the scary part to me. Yes, Grimes IS our best and that still isn't good enough.

      • #10
Grimes is by far our best CB but he is not a #1 CB. He is a super #2. He'd actually be an all world FS if he wasn't a midget. Jenkins was our best LB but needs to be our 3rd best; a guy we can take advantage of for of his speed and athleticism because our other LBs are so good it allows for it. Hewitt came on strong, late. McCain, McCain and Taylor have no business ever being starters in this league. Gunny Highway had a word to describe what it looks like when those three guys are out there in coverage. Therefore that makes Lippett our 2nd best CB by default. At least there's still potential and hope attached to his name.
