  • Lovie Smith Fired

This was a shocker when I woke up this morning. I think Smith is a hell of a coach. I hope Miami quickly has him heading into NY for an interview. I thought Tampa made some big gains, I know the defense still struggled, but not sure they have a lot of talent outside of a few people and ZERO depth.

Agreed. It was a bad move on their part & pretty much a shocker to everyone. I think their players are gonna be pissed!

I as well hope he at least gets a look,,,

Edit:Maybe the Fins won't be interested in Lovie Smith at all, as we're trying to do everything we can to get away from our culture of losing...

Funny, it's being reported that it was the Dolphins interest in the Bucs OC Dirk Koetter for their HC vacancy that prompted the Bucs to fire Smith, and now will more than likely promote Koetter to the HC position...

I believe that is exactly what happened, the Bucs didn't want to lose Dirk more than they did Lovie the Dovie, I think we just threw another coach on the unemployment line for some reason yet to be explained....

I don't know much about Dirk, but at this point it doesn't matter as he will become HC of the Bucs. My bet is he's another (analyst wet dream with no backing)....

Insanity runs rapid in South Florida. Both teams keep doing the same things over and over again expecting different results.

Koetter is a good coach. He did a great job with Winston this year and with Ryan last year. I think Smith is a good coach, but reading reports that there was a power struggle going on there and that he pretty much castrated Fraiser who is a damned good defensive coach. Starting to sound like Lovie has gotten a bit disconnected.

Well if it sounds like Lovie will fit right in with the Dolphins.

I wonder if he would consider a DC job in Miami?

I hear what you're saying,, thing is the next really good or great Head Coach has to come from somewhere (like your Bruce Arian's, Mike Tomlin's, Ron Rivera's, etc.; guys with no previous HC experience - Remember we had Tomlin if we wanted him & said thanks but no thanks!)..otherwise we're just left picking from the regurgitation menu..Problem is, this team is so screwed up i don't see it as an option to roll the dice on a promising OC or DC, IMO it's pretty crucial to get a veteran HC to round up a quality staff & kick this team into shape...

If we're going to take OC or even a DC and make them our HC, it has to be a guy that is still playing ball, if you aren't in it, I don't want to hear from you, about you or anything to do with you, I want someone who is still winning.....That should be the mind set, that is where the winners are, not some idiot who's being pumped up to be a great HC because, well...just because....you are a winner or you are one of the many losers, that's it....

But, that was the criteria we followed when we hired Philbin from the Packers, also Cleveland went the same route when they hired Crennel from the Pats as did the Broncos when the got McDaniels from the Pats,, the list goes on & on..You can't get much more 'WINNING' than that...It's ALL a crap-shoot, some got it & some don't & all you can do is play your gut-feeling & roll the dice!

I would take McDaniels right now in a heart beat

Also would gamble on Mike Shula....

That's it for me, for OC and/or DC I would look at....

I'm not saying you look at every OC or DC that is winning, but you have to start with the one's that are winning, which one's are making there team better, surely McDaniels and Shula are both making there respective teams better....

Look at who the HC' is for NE, probably one of best that's coached the game, like him or not, they continually stay at the top, while we surf the middle or as of late the bottom.....

This is how bad our Ex Coaching staff really was, and IMO is and forever will be....

I haven't heard a word from the (analyst) about Philbin, Lazor, Coyle, Dan....nothing, have they discovered the world is flat and fell off the edge????

The Dolphins had an offensive line coach posing as a head coach with a bunch of college coaches posing as NFL coaches. Nobody should have been promoted from within.

In theory it seems you'd have to be better off plucking a guy from a winning program and a guy whose tutelage has come under a great HC..But i can't name one coach from the Bellicheat coaching tree who has gone on to become a great HC himself; as a matter of fact the last three that come to mind (Crennel, Weiss & McDaniels) all failed miserably...While i would rather have a guy who has learned from the best and has winning ingrained into him i still maintain it's all pretty much a roll of the dice (That and having an elite QB never hurts!)..

I'm iffy on both McDaniels & Shula, as i'm not sure either has the leadership skills it's gonna take to whip this sorry-ass team into shape...
