The Only Thing Dolphins Fans Have To Root For In December

    1. Root For The Jets

Patriots clinch home field advantage IF they beat the Jets OR they tie the Jets and the Bengals lose.

Yep, this means we have to actually root for this Jets this weekend because Belichick and the Patriots have a rough time getting to the Super Bowl when they don't have home field advantage. I'm sure that has nothing to do with all the communication problems at their stadium that ALL their opponents experience.

    2. Root For The Falcons

The Panthers play in the Falcons in Atlanta. The Falcons have looked terrible in recent weeks and are playing just to play, which on the surface looks like a sure win for the Panthers but these are the games teams have to worry about the most. It seems when a team has nothing to play for they play with that "nothing to lose" mentality and bring out all the stops. They will try trick plays, go for it on 4th down when they shouldn't, etc. The Bucs have a shot at beating them next week but I would prefer that the Falcons relieve that stress early.

ALSO, I think IF the Dolphins are interested in hiring Mike Shula this offseason there "might" be less teams interested if they don't go undefeated. He is already getting the attention he deserves with how Newton and the offense have been playing but a HUGE light will be cast on that offense if the team goes undefeated, which will create a media circus and Mike Shula's pricetag will go way up and his availability for the Dolphins to land him will decrease.

    Sub-Category

With the Dolphins stinking up the joint are you rooting for any other teams? Do you have a "second favorite" team, you know, not a team you love of course but a team that you kind of like and root for when they are not playing the Dolphins?

Too late to root for this season to 'mercifully' end,, so i'll just root for it to end...It's funny (not HA-HA funny, the other funny) but this team and especially this season has left me football-hollow inside and i really couldn't care less what goes on the rest of the way..Do i want the Panthers to go undefeated? No..Do i want to see the Patriots or even the Stealers win yet another Lombardi?? That would be a resounding HELL NO...But at the end of the day, does it really matter & do i really care??..Unfortunately i think the answer to that would sadly be a HELL NO as well...

I'm almost there with ya, DP. I am bitter about the Dolphins. I am bitter that I didn't make it to my fantasy football championship game because Brees put up 30 plus points. (Is he ever going to stop haunting me?) But, I can NEVER stop rooting against the Patriots winning another championship. It's hard to root for the Jets but not when it comes to the Patriots. (For me) I don't care as much about the Panthers going undefeated as I am for the Patriots not to win another one. I am tired of the Dolphins organization lives in the past. It's time for the champagne popping from the '72 season to stop. This franchise needs something NEW to be popping open champagne bottles, doesn't it? Yeah, let's find a winning coach and build a team that can win a Super Bowl in this decade and THEN start celebrating something that happened in THIS century.

yeah, i know what you mean DF! My problem is that we've already had our teeth kicked in so many times by our own team, it's real hard for me to get all emotionally invested in having the Pats lose, only to have bellicheat, Brady & Co. defy all odds and kick all of us some more while we're down & out..We like to think it can't get any worse, but the Pats seem to always be around to remind us that it damn sure can! You're probably right about having a team like the Panthers going undefeated and finally breaking us out of our reverie of doing nothing but living in the past,, even though i've ALWAYS loved being the only team in the SB era to ever do it...Some have said that maybe that's what it'll take to break our curse,, if that's the case i'm all for it! AS LONG AS IT'S NEVER THE PATRIOTS, JETS OR BILL TO DO IT!!!

yeah, but only if we discuss them like they're THE HOLY GRAIL,, you know, something that we hear alot about, something that we believe could be out there somewhere but we remain doubtful because we've never actually seen it...

When I know the Dolphins are out of playoff contention, or if I am just bored watching other games, the teams I root for are the Chargers, Packers and Giants. I wouldn't call any of them my "second favorite" team but I do like them and root for them when they are not playing the Dolphins.

I forgot to mention the Chargers! It would be nice if they could win a game or two that they have left.

A Chargers win tonight would be good as it would help the Dolphins move up the draft board assuming we lose our last 2 games. We should also root for the Cowboys and Ravens Saints and Jaguars, I think the last 2 play each other this week so one of them will win.

I will root for the Jets to beat the Pats but I think the Pats only need one more win or a Bengals loss to secure home field throughout the playoffs. The Jets could go 11-5 and still miss the playoffs which would be really sweet. Really with the Bengals and Broncos QB situations its a virtual lock that the Pats get to the Superbowl. Believe it or not the Broncos are in danger of missing the playoffs if they lose to the Bengals on MNF. The Chiefs host the Browns and Raiders in their last 2 games and they would win the tiebreaker over the Broncos. Wouldn't that be crazy for a 1-5 team to come back and overtake a 6-0 team to win their division.

I think the Panthers Cardinals or Seahawks could beat the Pats in the SB. I will root for the Panthers to lose a game but if it doesn't happen and they go 19-0 it won't bother me that much. Maybe it will lift the curse the Dolphins are living under.

Pretty sad if you win 11 games and miss the playoffs....wow!

It happened to the Patriots in 2008 thanks to the Dolphins and it could happen to the Jets this year which would be a good thing. If the Broncos Chiefs and Steelers win out the Jets won't make the playoffs, no matter what they do.

darn it the chargers lost, we could have moved up a spot in the draft if they had won.

This team (meaning the Dolphins) can't win for losing!!! The Chargers should have easily won that game last night which as you said would've moved the Fins up in the draft order...

One series in that game reminded me of exactly how it feels to be a Fins fan; more than halfway through the 4th quarter with the Chargers leading by 5 and the Raiders playing listless the whole game, they made a FG to make it an 8 point lead..There was an Oakland penalty on the play, Chargers took the points off the board (proper call in that situation) & threw a TD pass on the very next play practically icing the win. The TD catch was overturned on replay (proper call), the Chargers failed to move the ball on the next two plays bringing back out their kicker who was 6 for 6 on the year in the 4th quarter (would've been 7 for 7, b/c remember he just made this same kick minutes before!) Well, we Fins fans know what happens next, he misses the FG & the game stays within striking distance for the Raiders...Amazingly the Chargers hold the Raiders to a 3 & out & get the ball back once again with around 5 minutes left to play, all they have to do is get a few 1st downs & pretty much put the game away..Well, we as Fins fans know what happens next, of course we do! The Chargers fumble, the Raiders not only recover but they run it back to inside the Chargers 5 yd. line, score a TD...and that's okay b/c they're gonna go for the 2 pt. conversion to try & make it a 3 point lead..All the Chargers have to do is stop the conversion attempt, drive down with 2 minutes remaining, kick a FG & win the game! Well,,,we Fins fans know what happens next, you're damn skippy we do!!! They allow the 2 pt. conversion..then they drive all the way down the field with time ticking off the clock, barely miss out on a TD pass & kick the FG to send it into OT...

And then in OT, we Fins fans know what happens next, right...OF-FREAKIN'-COURSE-WE-DO!!! WE ARE AFTERALL FINS FANS.......
