  • Our Next Coaching Staff - HC, DC and OC

Don Shula coaching days are over, however, his son, Mike is making a case to become the next Dolphins head coach. Mike and his Carolina Panthers are 10-0. 10 and 0! This coming from a team that many thought would be in a rebuilding year, based on the holes they had on their offensive line and with the season ending injury to their star wide receiver Kevin Benjamin. Fast forward to week 13, and the Panther have a legit chance of running the table, and matching the New England Patriots and the Miami Dolphins as the only teams that have had an undefeated regular season.

Make no mistake, Mike Shula’s is one of the main reason why the Carolina Panthers are 10-0. Mike has done something that Bill Lazor never even tried, he has built an offense on the strengths of his quarterback Cam Newton. Once Benjamin went down, Shula met with Cam and altered his playbook that would benefit Cam’s strength. Hidden boot legs, designed running plays that would keep opposing players on their back heels and passing plays that were designed to Cam strengths.

What a concept. A coach understanding what he has in his tool box, and simply asking his players what works best for them. This is a night and day difference from what we saw with Lazor. Lazor built his philosophy based on how he wanted his team to line up. Not allowing Ryan to audible at the line of scrimmage, is the best and most important argument that can be applied. Whereas Shula has entrusted Cam to alter his team based on what the defense gives him.
Don’t mistake this methodology as caretaker role. Rather it allows the QB to gain confidence in his own strength, which is game recognition. That type of strength can only grow with real life experience. That is the best coaching skill Shula allows his players to develop and the reason why he should be the next coach of the Miami Dolphins.
Who can Shula bring with him? On the Defensive side of the ball, look no further than the Carolina Panther existing linebackers coach; Al Holcomb. Holcomb has been the coach that is responsible for the best linebacking group in the NFL the past 3 years. Holcomb has built and taught Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis from the ground up. Working with Ron Rivera, Holcomb understands the importance of building and training your best assets – draft picks. Rivera has installed a similar system that mirrors his days with the Chicago Bears, where he once again had two premiere linebacker; Lance Briggs and Brian Urlacher. Imagine what Holcomb can do for a team that is in desperate need of upgrading their linebacker unit? What would that mean to a player like Suh? Better yet, Holcomb comes from a 4-3 base system which allows Suh to remain in a similar system he loves.
On the other side of the ball, Shula will look to a familiar face. A coach that worked alongside him during his tenure as a QB coach in Jacksonville – Dirk Koetter. Koetter is running an efficient and effective offensive game plan for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers right now. Koetter understands how to utilize his best assets, Mike Evans, Vincent Jackson and Doug Martin. Koetter will have a similar group in Miami with Jarvis Landry, Devante Parker and Lamar Miller/ Jay Ajayi. Make no mistake though, Shula will build an offensive mentality, but will allow Koetter to call the plays the dictate to the flow of the game.
    Head Coach – Mike Shula
    Defensive Coordinator – Al Holcomb
    Offensive Coordinator – Dirk Koetter
If the Dolphins want to start heading back to the glory days, let history repeat itself, and allow for another Shula to take us there.

Great read and I have always liked the idea of another Shula as head coach. And I think Mike is finally ready to be successful as an NFL head coach.

      Nice job brov!

I am really starting to warm to the idea of bringing a Shula back into the fold...At only 50 years old & looking to be a rising star it might just be a perfect fit!!! Perfect..did you see what i did there?!

        LOL...well played sir

I like the combination of all 3 of them. This is me just 100% speculating what could potentially be...I was advocating for a coach with real HC experience, and Shulal doesnt fit that criteria, but would have his dad as a mentor.

Also - think about the media spin on this....Fans would go crazy

        Josh McDaniels or Mike Shula....

Josh has learned from the best in the league....

Mike Shula, much like Josh as they both needed to mature in this league, is another great prospect....

That is the Coaching part, we need a FO that recognizes talent and can bring them in here.....

my only concern here my friend is drafting. Although D. THomas was a wicked pick, I dont think JOsh has a great skill set on drafting elite players.

Holcomb and Shula understand that....Holcomb especially, since he has had the job for 3 years, and drafted both Luke and Thomas

Don't think there's a chance in hell of that happening...But this is afterall the Miami Dolphins we're talking about, so why it would surprise me if it were to happen..just like the Fins organization 'I HAVEN'T A CLUE!!!'

This sounds like a great combination. Gee Mike plays to the strengths of his players...... I wonder where he ever got a radical idea like that??

Dan Campbell will be the coach because no one else will want it who is a better candidate. There will be better organizations to work for. Campbell wins by default.

No seriously. I think there is no chance anyone who would be exciting, or make a huge impact would come here. I think Campbell gets another year with his own coordinators, etc. and then maybe someone better shakes free or he improves.

Believe me, i know what you're saying..Hell, sometimes i wonder if when the final bell signals the official end to this death march, i mean season..DC might actually say thanks but no thanks if the job is offered..Seriously though, IMO there's little to no chance he gets offered the job and i do believe someone out there who Ross wants will actually be up for the challenge...

I agree totally. If that wasn't the case, they would of never fired Lazor this late. It makes Dolphin sense

Can't believe Marc Duffner is not the leading candidate since he was so good at coaching at Maryland, 20-35 in the worse division 1 college conference at the time and most sports experts in South Beach wanted him as the DC when Coyle was released, which leads me to the point where so many coached are hired here despite so little experience and terrible previous records and/or relationships. I just can't believe after all these years Miami still doesn't get it with the Campbell and Taylor even though they both will be gone soon. But like so many people here have said, it all starts at the top and the top don't know squat about football and it tells ya the truth when the most dynamic and intellect football minds decline the money and don't want to deal with the BS so the fins owner has to take the bottom of the dumpster ala Tannenbaum, Hickey, Philbin.

                    Great post, Bahamas!

This is one of the best posts I've read in a long time. It's a well thought out, intelligent post that shows you really did your homework. Your post actually makes sense and gives some Dolphins fans hope for the future of this organization. The thought of Campbell and Taylor coming back makes me want to sell all of my Dolphins gear and just give up. Shula is the one coaching candidate that "might" come to Miami despite Ross' ineptitude because his father may be able to work some magic behind the scenes that forces Ross to come to his senses. I believe Tannenbaum will be a head coaching hire road block, kind of how Ireland was for players coming to Miami. I think many coaches will avoid coming to Miami as long as Tannenbaum is in control and they do not. A NFL caliber head coach that can take this team anywhere noteworthy will want control and as long as Tannenbaum is around he will keep the top candidates away. However, your idea of Mike Shula being interested does make sense and he "might" even take the job without having complete control of all personnel decisions. I really hope Ross cleans house and fires everyone from Tannenbaum on down but I highly doubt that will happen. Here's hoping that your idea comes true. Cheers!

I think dan campbell will be miami's next coach and next year you'll see a marked improvement in the team! he will find a OC and DC and the team will get to playoffs .
the personal of this team will change a lot and many faces will be stocking shelves next season.

cameroon -player didn't like or respect him ,couldn't control his locker room.
                      sporano-a cheerleader fist pumper
philbin- soft and couldn't lead men to battle for him and so loyal to HIS PEOPLE he let them take him down with them!
dan campbell-players like and respect him ,isn't a cheerleader fist pumper, isn't soft and these players would follow him into battle, and will work with the current upper management in place.
4 years miami will be in the super bowl!!!!
