  • Phins claim Quinten Coples from Jets

When I saw the Jets released him I was hoping we'd make a claim for him. We need LB/DE help and he's a Jet so we can get needed intel this week. Not that it matters
The Dynamic Duo ! - BOOM! POW!

Me too - we need help at DE and that really is his natural position. The jests kept pushing him to be an OLB, but he's consistently been better with his hand on the ground. I think this was a really sharp move by Miami. Young guy, lot of potential - and he wasn't even bad in NY. Just not great....in a D that didn't suit his play very well. I think he'll be better in our 4-3 and will have a chance to replace OV or Wake if either (or both) aren't back.

First time in a while Miami has made a move I really liked...

I really really thought this would've never have happened considering the state we're in right now and who's in the FO. I'm down for this test drive considering everything I've heard he's a DE, the opposite problem we had/have with Dion Jordan

Agreed - just don't understand why they wouldn't play Jordan at LB where he belonged. I'm pretty sure he's done in Miami now though.....so he'll probably get a chance to resurrect his career elsewhere.....I'm betting as an LB.

Of course, the Pats will pick up Jordan next offseason and play him at LB where he belongs and he will become a pro bowl player.

and if Coples gets injured, we are on the hook for the full salary 7.75 million for 2016, per ESPN. So if this dude busts out are cap space is blown for next year.

I was pretty sure we'd put a claim in but i assumed a crappier team would get him ahead of us,, wait, a crappier team?? Nevermind...

Wow, didn't realize that...guess that would be adding injury to insult...

Spend it all! Why hold back? Go all in and see what happens. If he actually becomes something for us then the Dion Jordan pick is replaced.

Seems to be a strong indication of what the FO thinks of OV... be interesting to see if we keep Coples. Can't keep both he and OV, which I'm fine with.

I love how everyone assumes Jordan is a success at LB. Why? What on earth has he shown?

In college, a lot. He really hasn't been on the field much as a pro - and most of that was at DE. There's a reason he was said to be the best player in the draft. Clearly that wasn't true.....but dismissing him having any talent isn't right. He was a difference maker at Oregon. A defensive player that changed games.

Was never played enough at LB to show much & then through his own stupidity, wasn't on the field at all..but in limited play at LB he could drop into coverage as good as i've ever seen from a LB; covered Gronkowski with ease & ran step for step with speedy backs running down the sidelines...

Didn't he do a good job defending Gronk the times he mirrored him?

Jordan made plays for us on both ST and covering TEs (Gronk) when we dropped him back. The failure on the team was when they had him add 30+ lbs and asked him to put his hand in the dirt. The constant push to add weight and play on the line was not his forte.

I'd love to see him get back to where he was 20 - 30 lbs ago and get his life straight. In limited snaps, he had a blocked punt, almost scored on a scoop and run last year, then had 3 sacks and 3 pass deflections over 2 seasons. I still think he could be a very dynamic player in the right situation - especially now that Coyles is gone.

                    YMMV.

Isn't that the position he played at Oregon? He must have shown something at Oregon to make him the 3rd pick in the draft.

He was a DE at Oregon, and many did not have him ranked near the top of the draft. He was supposed to be a pass rushing specialist. Sorry I don't subscribe to the theory that if a guy can not start at his primary position, then he will star at another. There is so much more that we need out of LB such as run stuffers. He would get destroyed by offensive lineman coming through. He just doesn't have the physicality to play at this level. He can't beat the blocks.

He played like Jason Taylor played - I think they called it the Elephant position. He got in a 3 point, in a 2 point, wandered around and made a lot of plays. Seriously. I saw him called the best player in the draft by numerous sources. He's been a total and complete bust to this point....but I just have a feeling he'll end up elsewhere and suddenly live up to his potential.

I Agree with Alpha...Jordan will live up to his billing just not as a Dolphin... Only a true coaching staff will know how to get the best out of Jordan..

His suspension was centered around steroid use because we insisted he gain weight to line up as a true DE. Coples is a 292 pound DE that the Jets insisted play as an OLB. What the hell is wrong with these guys? Is it ego? Why don't we line Tannehill up as NT and play Suh at QB? Oh, I know why, because they can't play those positions!
